# Anyone with a titanium wedding band? Any downside I'm not foreseeing?

I’m about to order the wedding bands, and while she’ll be getting white gold to match the engagement ring, I’ll be getting titanium.
Unless, that is, there’s some good reason not to. I look the look of it, the weight, and the fact that it can hold open [a hydraulic door](http://members.shaw.ca/davidyarema/arnell_new_site/html/english_site/abyss_ring_story.htm) should the need arise. 😉
Is there a downside to a titanium wedding band that I’m not seeing? I know about the problem with re-sizing, but my ring size hasn’t changed much in 25 years, so I’m not too worried about that.

If you play with your ring (twirling it on table tops, flipping it like a coin, etc.), there’s only upside. I lost 2 gold wedding rings before I went titanium. I’ve lost 2 of them in the past 5-6 years, but they only cost like $10 each when I bought in bulk on eBay 🙂

Emergency room ring cutters may not be able to handle very hard or strong rings.
Some can, others not.

I’ll have to check, but I think mine was titanium. I liked it. It was light, it didn’t get messed up or bent out of shape. All I had to do was take it to the jeweler once every few months and have them buff it so it looked nice.
I do recall them saying that it couldn’t be resized and that if you needed it resized you basically sold them yours and bought a new one, but it was like $200.

The only downside I could find for the tungsten carbide wedding band that I wear was the ER one, and even then, they can crunch them with vise-grips if need be.

I have one. No real downside. I’ve heard that there could be problems if my hand gets injured and they need to cut it off. Not as easy as gold. My next bicycle was going to be titanium so I got a matching ring in advance. But then I bought a carbon fiber bike.
A coworker has a platinum wedding ring. Very nice. I might be tempted to get one of those if I lose my TI ring.

No downsides I can think of. They are so light, that when I take it off to make hamburger patties and forget to put it back on, I might not notice for days. Then my wife gives me the Royal Stinkeye.
I guess that may be a downside.

To me, the lightness and the fact that it gets scratched is a negative. I like to feel the weight of a ring on my finger and I don’t like to have to maintain it by having to take it in to get it buffed.
I went with tungsten. Inexpensive. Substantial. Seemingly indestructable. I like the color too. And I don’t take it off in the gym when I do free weights and I have yet to see a single mark on it from contact of metal on metal.

I’ve got one. They definitely pick up surface scratches. Nothing deep, but enough to mar a polished finish.

Looks like you might want to get one with a brushed finish, so it doesn’t need to be de-scratched as often.

Mine started out with a raised dark band. Sort of a rough, sandblasted look - perhaps just oxidized. It wore away to smooth titanium very quickly.

I machine a lot of titanium in my shop. It is very soft (realitivity speaking) and scratches easily. Almost aluminimum like.
Neat metal. Bastard to cut threads into, never thought of one as a ring, maybe I’ll make one tomorrow.

A friend of mine has one, and he loves it. Its got a brushed finish and some stones on the top so all of the scratches are on the back side. It doesn’t flatten out like gold or silver does. If I were to tell him to come here and post about it, you would probably think he was on commission or something.
My rings are platinum. I can’t see the difference between that and white gold, but they are so durable. My 2 year old engagement ring is still a perfect circle and while there are a few scratches on the back its probably because I’m so hard on rings.
