There’s a lot of veteran’s groups in town, but they tend to have a more pacifist nature; poetry circles, community gardens, “safe spaces”, and so on.

ROTC was kicked off of most campuses due to Vietnam era anti-military sentiments. The modern issue of gay rights was an issue for recruiting and the eventual reinstatement of on-campus ROTC.

In recent years, concerted efforts are being made at some Ivy League universities that have previously banned ROTC, including Columbia, to return ROTC to campus.[9] The Harvard ROTC program was reinstated effective March 4, 2011, following enactment of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010.

It looks like now that the sexual orientation discrimination issue is being dealt with, a lot of schools are trying to get ROTC back on campus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_Officers’_Training_Corps

I doubt the Vietnam thing is particularly relevant any more, it was almost half a century ago.
