In general, I think the instigators of the French Revolution were dangerous, misguided zealots. Now and then, somebody comes along and says something that gives me insight into what fueled that zealotry. Equating health care with a tropical vacation is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. ---

I won’t repeat the “you’re already paying for other people’s insurance/healthcare” point since it’s been covered so well already. I’ll just add that however unhappy the current conversations about healthcare/payer reform make you, John McCain’s plan was _worse_. Horrifying. If his plans had been carried out, we would have seen an even greater divide between the haves and have-nots. (Canadian here) Since the private sector is still running, won’t they in their infinite compassion and wisdom crush the blundering beurocratic government system? Rand should have nothing to worry about. Also most Canadians take pride in our system (though it is flawed). I don’t think we’re moving away from it, just trying to find solutions to make it better, much like the US isn’t really moving away from privatized healthcare, just finding a solution to fill in the gaps. Hey here’s an idea! Why not look at a Canadian news source for Canadian news? I have medical care [and even if I didn’t, I spend some 32 years working and paying into the system on my own behalf, so either way, I’m covered.] And I also paid taxes every single one of those years to both the feds and the state, so I paid my share of everybody’s nick as well.
