> You know, even WITH insurance people themselves will _choose_ to avoid “very expensive things” sometimes. My mother, for instance, could have had a LOT of very expensive care at the end of her life, all of it covered by Medicare and her “gap” insurance, but instead _we chose_ to opt for hospice, at home, which was a LOT less money but money had nothing to do with our decision - because we didn’t have to worry about how to pay the bills. People _choose_ to turn off the machines for the hopelessly brain dead every day in this country not because of money issues but because they know the person is dead and any further treatment is futile.

The irony of the same Republicans [forced the husband of a woman in a persistent vegetative state to keep paying huge sums of money to keep her "alive](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terri_Schiavo_case)" is astounding. It really is all about politics with them.

[http://www.theseminal.com/2009/03/03/the-founding-fathers-did-not-want-large-corporations/](http://www.theseminal.com/2009/03/03/the-founding-fathers-did-not-want-large-corporations/) Strange that our founding fathers were very concerned about corporate power. Yet they have evolved into financial and political powerhouses that dominate us. Yet somehow people are comfortable with that. Yet people argue that our forefathers had a stance on health care which was not even a concept at the time. Anyone who argues our originators would be against health care are just making shit up. Arguing that they did not see us in this experiment together would be ignoring the common welfare concept. they actually said that in the preamble. Yet that should be ignored? Their fear of corporations on the other hand should be dismissed?

Boy you are really losing it aren’t you? How many times have I said that I never have a problem with people that _earn_ these things? But of course you need to ignore that or otherwise you wouldn’t be able to work up such a lovely head of steam.

Why would you think that? If the government hadn’t taken that money from me all those years, I’d have been able to put more to retirement. I wonder what $70,000 would be now…

Approximately $35,000. At least that’s what our $70,000 is right now. Of course, I’m nowhere near retirement age, so that’s good.

That’s because it’s magical curlcoat world: investments never go anywhere but up, $26,000 is enough to cover any medical emergency (and if it’s not, it doesn’t matter as long as you have the magic BLUE card), and everyone who goes bankrupt had to be some sort of deadbeat.

Back in the day there was no way to know before he was born that he would have any sort of problem at all. How do you prepare for something you _can’t_ see coming? Oh, yes… savings, insurance… well, the Marines gave them health insurance, but I fail to see how you could possibly expect a young couple in their early 20’s to have saved enough money to cover the lifetime care of someone with a severe disability.

You do understand that the money you paid in was not held for you personally, right? Additionally, you have said that you will accept the money even if it surpasses the amount that you have paid in.

Sigh - have you read the thread at all? Or are you just accepting what **Broomstick** bleats out?

a) I am not against “the system”, I am against being _expected_ to be happy to pay for another handout for our generations of welfare families and just general irresponsible twits.

b) I am well aware that the government didn’t hold the money I paid into SS aside just for me, and that they didn’t invest it or anything intelligent. I am also aware that they took those tens of thousands of dollars from me over the years, meaning I couldn’t add it to my retirement funds. If I were the rich person that **Broomstick** seems to think I am, I could just wave those tens of thousands aside, but since I’m not…

c) It’s not likely I will live long enough to take $90,000 out, much less the lost interest. Even if I do, the mere fact that I worked at least one job for over 35 years means I have far more right to any overage than people who have children they cannot afford, run up huge debt and then expect that someone else will deal with it or buy houses they had to have known they couldn’t afford.

Anybody else that asks these same questions again can just refer back to this post.

You didn’t put in $90,000, or anywhere close to it, even if you were making $100,000 a year. You _may_ have put that much into Social Security _en toto_, but I doubt it.

I and others would have a much easier time accepting this if you didn’t continue to assert that most people who need assistance are “welfare families and just general irresponsible twits.” Either back up your assertion or accept (as supported by other posters’ cites) that most people who need assistance are remarkably similar to you in their values and behavior.

Retard: he’s saying that you’re already paying taxes for the shiftless hordes of welfare mothers to use the freeways, water, and energy, which you don’t seem to have a problem with, but when it comes to UHC, suddenly it’s a whole different concept in your opinion.
