Have you ever seen these shows, named “World Wildest Police Videos”? They are nothing more than a retired Sheriff trying to inflame the public, and I’m a little pissed off that he sees the need to profit off of the camera shots of his brothers in arms. I am in no way knocking the heroics of those cops that perform these miracles on film, but I am going to put a ding in the armor of that Burnell guy that tries to sensationalize them. As for him and his “Capt. Winters” guy that seems to appear as a ‘consultant’ on _nearly every_ freakin’ show, I say shame on you. Shame that you have to sensationalize every clip, shame that you have to add sound effects to every video, shame that you have to narrate every scene as if the other guy on camera is guilty of murder in the first. You guys are a scam, but an entertaining scam. And I’m sure I’m not the first to see it. Tripler You televise it, but you twist it to your own means. ---

I love how the narration sensationalizes every little thing. All cops are brave, highly trained, eagle eyed, unemotional perfect beings – all suspects are depraved, deranged, inherently evil purveyors of death and destruction – all bystanders are frightened, sniveling, grateful idiots throwing rose petals at their heroes. They show a cop swerving to miss something in the road, and they slow it down and reshow it ten times … “Thanks to the officer’s quick reflexes and intense training, he narrowly escapes a harrowing accident!” Fuck, _I’ve_ swerved to avoid shit in the road and I don’t have any training. Today I was watching one and they slowed down the tape in order highlight a “frightened child playing on a bike, scurrying out of the way, as the deranged criminal nearly runs him over.” The kid was standing about 50 feet away watching them drive past, probably saying to himself … “Cool. A car chase.” ---

Horseshovel is quickly on the scene…” Hell, I love this shit. Hicks and car chases, a winning combination. It seems so exotic to us Brits 😃 ---

They hadone of these shows on TV here last night, and everything that’s been said here already completely matches with what I saw. They even had a fake helicopter pilot voiceover included, I assume because they didn’t have the original soundtrack or it was too noisy to use. But the fake voice just sounded like a bad actor oversensationalising it all again, even though we were getting that already from the main voiceover guy. There’s a British show that handles this kind of thing so much better than the US versions, even though they also are guilty of having tenuous links between segments - e.g. they’ll start out saying it’s going to be a show all about motorcycle accidents, then have only three clips involving motorcycles before suddenly showing truck and caravan accidents. ---

Spike TV was running a marathon of these shows today. I wish they’d show wrestling reruns. At least I had a Tampa Bay Schmuccanears game to suffer through. ---

I love _World’s Wildest Police Videos_! Ditto _Cops_, _World’s Scariest Police Chases_, and any other show of that ilk. Admittedly, WWPV is way melodramatic, but when you attain Police Chase Show Guru status like I have, you learn to tune out Bunnell’s voice. It’s all about the footage, baby. (Though being so familiar with his voice helped me recognize him in _Bad Santa_.) I believe that the UK show is _Lights, Camera, Police_. I love that one, too. 😃 Entertainment can’t be intellectually stimulating _all_ of the time… 😉 ---

In Germany the equivalent of Cops is **Polizei** and it is not exactly the same as our wife-beater drunks/“I didn’t know my wife was a hooker”/“How’d that crack get in my pants?” mentality. Still a hoot to watch in any language. ---
