Operation Euphrates Shield is launched with Turkish armor, American air power and Syrian rebels attacking and seising the ISIS supply node in the vicinity of Jarabulus. The [Economist](http://www.economist.com/news/middle-east-and-africa/21705658-turkish-forces-pour-over-syrian-border-battlefield-syria-just-became?fsrc=scn/tw/te/bl/ed/) has Turkish airpower and special operations troops engaged while the [Wall Street Journal](http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-joins-turkish-forces-to-launch-push-against-islamic-state-in-syria-1472016805) doesn’t mention them. It’s not unreasonable that Turkish special operations were embedded with the rebels or that they coordinated the air piece even if it’s unclear. [BBC](http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-37171995) has it at “between nine and 12” tanks involved but even a company(-) of tanks is a decent chunk of combat power in a local light infantry fight. This is distinctly bad news for ISIS. The longer term implications in the chaotic situation between interests operating in Syria are a lot less clear. The three links provide some good discussion of those implications. If anyone else feels the compulsive need to identify armor I experience, I’m calling it one of the American built M60A1s or M60A3s Turkey still operates.
