Honestly, we’ve been past acceptable caution and into something else for quite some time. Do I feel that this will increase safety? No. Do I feel that any of the added measures since 9-11 have increased safety? Not really. It is my opinion that they are just for show, mostly. To make some folks\* feel\* safer.

But really, is getting mad about _this_ going to change anything?

----- Honestly, we’ve been past acceptable caution and into something else for quite some time.

That’s actually my problem. It appears to me that we’re passing up more effective measures that _feel_ more invasive (specifically, national ID cards/standardized driver’s liscenses) while adopting plans that in practice seem unlikely to pass rough cost/benefit tests.

Oh yeah, and what about those chemical factories and (to a lesser extent) those ports?

Gut reactions are a sorry substitute for detailed analysis, even in the area of privacy.

Anger is seldom a constructive emotion. It’s better to be, “Alerted” or in the right circumstances, “Awakened”.
