Yeah, I’m surprised they were even able to get a grand jury to indict.

Ex-FBI director James Comey indicted on two charges with reports that he will...
Comey is expected to surrender and have his initial appearance in federal district court today
Yeah, I’m surprised they were even able to get a grand jury to indict.
“Should we indict Jim Comey or a ham sandwich?”
Stranger
Perhaps. But I said in a different thread:
“Can you believe how these so-called ‘judges’ keep standing in the way as we attempt to take down these terrible people who we all know are enemies of America? We gotta do something!”
Comey was probably most responsible for Trump’s first win with that ridiculous leak a week before the election (then, “oops, never mind, there’s nothing there” a week after).
Fuck that guy.
Do you really think so? I’d suspect he simply would move on to any number of equally disturbing actions. Any “loss” would be mentioned only as an explanation of how the Democrat deep state is weaponized against him.
I full expect it to come out that they’re lying about the grand jury part.
Of course this is in the realm of speculation.
Trump can only continue as a dictator so long as there are five Supreme Court votes allowing it. Whether there might be some point where they turn against him is speculation.
So long as both houses of congress have a GOP majority, it might be possible for Trump to get most of his right-wing policies legalized. There’s room for progressives to remain very angry at the administration even if transitioned into some measure of respect for law.
Until that semi-happy day, everyone on the Patel enemies list should anticipate getting the Comey treatment.
From here:

a quote via his own social medium of the man who never did not personally order Comey’s indictment at all:
Whether you like Corrupt James Comey or not, and I can’t imagine too many people liking him, HE LIED! It is not a complex lie, it’s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one. There is no way he can explain his way out of it. He is a Dirty Cop, and always has been, but he was just assigned a Crooked Joe Biden appointed Judge, so he’s off to a very good start. Nevertheless, words are words, and he wasn’t hedging or in dispute. He was very positive, there was no doubt in his mind about what he said, or meant by saying it. He left himself ZERO margin of error on a big and important answer to a question. He just got unexpectedly caught. James “Dirty Cop” Comey was a destroyer of lives. He knew exactly what he was saying, and that it was a very serious and far reaching lie for which a very big price must be paid! President DJT
Poor Comey, the man who could have stopped trump before he started, the one who did not investigate the Russia, Russia, Russia collusion when he could have done, the man who always respected the form so much (and the spirit of the form so little), the man who now publicly declares in a video statement posted on Instagram that he was innocent and welcomed a trial, the man soon to find out that being innocent is the most suspicious thing in a dictatorship.
“My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump, but we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way. We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either,” Comey said.
They say when you die he things you regret are not the ones you did, but the ones you didn’t. Maybe. But Comie did not have to wait until dying, he already knows what he should have done long ago. I guess I regrets his stilted formality now.
Comey was probably most responsible for Trump’s first win with that ridiculous leak a week before the election (then, “oops, never mind, there’s nothing there” a week after).
Fuck that guy.
Or that. Yeah, fuck him.
Meh. I still think Comey botched the investigation into the Russian interference. He wound up the case by saying to MAGA, “Well that’s it, do what you want to with it.” What a fucking coward.
eah, I’m surprised they were even able to get a grand jury to indict.
There was a third count that the grand jury refused to indict him on. So there’s that.
You only need 51% of a grand jury to vote to indict, you need 100% of a trial jury to vote to convict. So hopefully at least 1 person sees this for what it is and refuses to convict at the trial. Also the judge overseeing the case was appointed by Biden, so there is that.
I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I am innocent, so let’s have a trial and keep the faith.
I do not know enough to join in the progressive complaints about Comey’s performance as FBI director. But the statement I quote shows poor judgment. If Comey’s lawyer can’t get this dismissed, and the government does not offer him a. no-jail plea bargain, a bench trial is essential. With a jury trial, there is high risk of jury tampering, and acquittal would put the jurors in physical danger. Please don’t do that to them, or yourself.
The U.S. now has at best a hybrid regime. Why have faith in it?
Lawfare covered the likely cases that would be made and the evidence for and against them, here:
Any way you play, you lose.
It seems likely that the question hangs over whether Comey authorized McCabe to talk to the Wall Street Journal to confirm a Clinton Foundation investigation. Most evidence says, “He did not.” And that it is effectively a “He said. She said.” case that has no solid foundation.
Presumably, the prosecutors only displayed a carefully chosen selection of McCabe’s statements to the grand jury, excluding earlier ones that didn’t align and, of course, Comey’s testimony about the events to the Inspector General.
I do not know enough to join in the progressive complaints about Comey’s performance as FBI director. But the statement I quote shows poor judgment.
Comey is a fairly upstanding doofus. (I’m the opposite of a progressive btw.)
Obama chose him because the Senate would only allow him to choose a Republican, and because he’d gone ape-shit under Bush about the use of torture.
As FBI director, my read of his performance was that he didn’t have sufficient experience in running big organizations and tried to keep everything political at the top, rather than farming the work out over the whole organization. Basically, everything politically sensitive was being managed by a handful of people, and that swamped them with work, making the product a bit shoddy, and putting them all in the line of sight of any blowback. I’ve never read anything that gave the impression that the FBI has tens of thousands of workers, while reading any reports about Comey’s time in office.
Comey was also part of the Ken Starr investigation into the Clintons (specifically, Whitewater) and, having evidence that the Clintons had destroyed evidence, had wanted to charge Hillary back in the 90s. I think he believes that she genuinely is crooked.
Among the above lack of utilizing the strength of the organization, McCabe - the #2 most important person inside the FBI - had Clinton’s email server under his desk and had forgotten to get it investigated. Realizing that the issue was about to be investigated, he did a quick peak, found a few things that at a glance looked important, told Comey, and Comey ran to tell Congress that he was opening an investigation, about two weeks before election day.
In the eyes of Trump, even if an allegation ends in nothing, the very fact of anyone not having crushed the allegation deserves punishment.
But in the bigger picture this also ties in with the line that had been going on for some years now, of establishing in the public’s mind that ALL investigations and prosecutions of political figures are persecution, and that what’s evil is being a rat or turncoat after having been inside.
So that in 2029 everyone can be indignant about “why do you want to litigate the past, let’s move on”, or “you’re weaponizing lawfare against our side!!”
I have to wonder if Hillary Clinton is next to face some bullshit indictment.
When Trump tweeted (or verb-ed some other way) about Comey, he also mentioned Schiff. If I were a betting man…
Look for Fauci, Schiff, Hillary, Obama, and George Soros to be next. It doesn’t matter that no crimes were committed- there are no charges, prove your innocence!
Seems to me the DOJ lawyers had best make sure their malpractice insurance is up to date for when the chickens come home to roost.
And I don’t see how that fact would even slow him down, let alone stop him.
Having to go through judicial maneuverings at all are a means Trump is slowing himself down – or else, being slowed down. He’s tacitly accepting a constraint against extrajudicial action (e.g. having Comey, Schiff, et al summarily jailed), which implies he understands that his power is even now limited.
If Comey’s lawyer can’t get this dismissed, and the government does not offer him a. no-jail plea bargain, a bench trial is essential.
I disagree. Jury tampering (while not impossible) is not really a think in US courts. Even the “bad” judges are very careful about the juries. Given that 50% of the public hates Trump and sees how corrupt he is, Comey should do fine with a jury.
