EM - Edward Wolfgang Munster was the werewolf son of Herman Munster and his wife Lily Dracula, who lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. He was played by Patrick Lilley, who acted under the alias “Butch Patrick.”

EN = Evelyn Nesbit, chorus girl, model and actress. She was a live model in the days when fashion photography was just starting to become popular. Charles Dana Gibson used her as the model for his “Gibson Girl”. Nesbit achieved world-wide notoriety when her husband, multi-millionaire Harry Kendall Thaw, shot and murdered Stanford White on the rooftop theatre of Madison Square Garden on the evening of June 25, 1906, leading to what the press would call “The Trial of the Century”.

EO = Enid, Oklahoma.

Enid, Oklahoma is the “Wheat Capital of the United States.”

EP = Ernie Pyle

Ernie Pyle was an American newspaper columnist who specialized in the lives of common people flying under the radar of larger events. During WWII, he did stories about the soldiers at war, and was killed by enemy fire at Okinawa.

EQ = Eighteen Quarters

ER = Eleanor Roosevelt, FLOTUS. Orphaned at the age of 9, she was given away in marriage (on St. Patrick’s Day, 1905) by her uncle, Theodore Roosevelt.

ES = Ebenezer Scrooge

Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese said Scrooge was the victim of bad press. He paid Bob Cratchet well enough that Tiny Tim’s doctor made house calls, Mrs. Cratchet did not need a job outside the house, which had a kitchen garden, and they could afford goose and plum pudding on holidays.

ET = Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, notorious pirate. He was reputed to put lit fuses in his beard to frighten his enemies, victims and crew. When Capt. Maynard and his men attacked Blackbeard and his men, it result in the deaths of 10 of the King’s men and 11 pirates, including Teach. Maynard later examined Teach’s body, noting that it had been shot no fewer than five times and cut about twenty. Teach’s corpse was thrown into the inlet while his head was suspended from the bowsprit of Maynard’s sloop so that the reward could be collected.

EU = Edinburgh University

Founded in 1582, Edinburgh University is one Scotland’s ancient universities.

EV = Eddie Vedder, best known as the singer with the group Pearl Jam. One of his most recent solo efforts was an album called Ukulele Songs, which were all performed on the ukulele. It appears to be making a comeback.

EW = Enumclaw, Washington

Named for Enumclaw, who, with his twin Kapoonis, wanted to be great medicine men and sought the guardian spirit Sky Father’s assistance. Enumclaw became so highly skilled at rock throwing and Kapoonis so highly skilled with fire that they frightened Sky Father with their aim and ferocity, and so Sky Father changed Enumclaw into the thunder spirit and changed Kapoonis into the lightning spirit

EX = Exarch Xylem. Xylem is the stuff that makes wood wood. Exarch is used when there is more than one strand of primary xylem in a stem or root, and the xylem develops from the outside inwards towards the center, i.e. centripetally. The metaxylem is thus closest to the center of the stem or root and the protoxylem closest to the periphery. The roots of vascular plants are normally considered to have exarch development.

EY = Executive Yuan

The Executive Yuan (literally: “Executive Court”) is the executive branch of the central government of Taiwan. Approximately equivalent to the Cabinet.

EZ = Efrem Zimbalist. EZ Sr. was a concert classical violinist of note. EZ Jr. was an actor, best known for appearing on the TV series 77 Sunset Strip and The F.B.I. He also did cartoon work, voice Alfred on a cartoon Batman series, and Dr. Octopus on a Spider-Man series. EZ Jr.'s daughter, Stephanie Zimbalist, was the female lead on Remington Steele.

FA- Fred Allen’s radio show featured Kenny Delmar performing as Senator Claghorne, a folksy Southern politician.

The Warner Brothers cartoon rooster Foghorn Leghorn was based on Senator Claghorne, and Mel Blanc used many of Delmar’s patented expressions.

FB = Ford Bronco

Introduced in 1966, Ford Bronco was the precursor to what became the SUV. Ford was the first maker of passenger cars that entered the market (with Jeep and International) of MPVs, multi-purpose vehicles, that were practical as family personal cars as well as work fleets. The expression “SUV” didn’t emerge until about 1973.

FC = Fort Courage

The setting for the 1960’s TV sitcom F Troop, which starred Ken Berry, who actually served under Sgt. Leonard Nimoy in the Army.

FD - Frederick Douglass

The former slave disliked those who praised Confederate soldiers’ courage while downplaying the goals of the Confederacy, once saying, “We are sometimes asked in the name of patriotism to forget the merits of this fearful struggle, and to remember with equal admiration those who struck at the nation’s life, and those who strove to save it - those who fought for slavery and those who fought for liberty and justice.”

FE = Fermat’s Enigma

A popular science book (1997) by Simon Singh. It tells the story of the search for a proof of Fermat’s last theorem. Only the American edition was titled “Fermat’s Enigma” – the rest of the world saw the book entitled “Fermat’s Last Theorem”.

FF = Fantastic Four. Originally Stan Lee wanted this superhero family group to wear normal street clothes, but changed his mind to make a buck or two.
