> To recognize Captain James A. Lovell, Jr.'s achievements, the Adler commissioned a life-like seven-foot sculpture of the astronaut as part of its 75th Anniversary. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley helped dedicate the sculpture in the Adler’s newly-restored Rainbow Lobby on June 28. The sculpture is intended to commemorate man’s quest to explore beyond the Earth and features one of Captain Lovell’s most famous quotes: “I have seen the Earth as it truly is — a grand oasis in the vastness of space.”

Those damn Chicagoans, always trying to steal Milwaukee’s thunder.

Milwaukee has the [James Lovell Museum of Science and Technology](http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2971318-discovery_world_james_lovell_museum_of_science_milwaukee-i) , located on James Lovell St.

Hey Chicago, get your own astronauts! 😃

To me, the statue looks more like Kevin Costner. :dubious:

I have a bit of personal pride in that statue because my company etched the pages of his manual in brass and I had to do some touch up work on the art. It’s not a huge contribution, I know, but it feels kind of cool nonetheless.
