Crunchy Frog, It’s hard thinking up clever names at the spur of the moment when joining these discussion groups. After several attempts at a name, I found one that was accepted. Now it has been pointed out to me that we both have virtually the same name, mine only having “The” in front of it. I don’t want to step on any toes or cause any confusion, so Sunday, I wrote to the webmaster requesting a name change. I have yet to hear back about it. So until then, I will have to continue to post under the handle, “The Crunchy Frog.” I am sorry for any inconvience this has caused. ---

Send an email to all the admins, **The Crunchy Frog** , rather than just the webmaster. That way, you’ll get a quicker response. ---

Hey, “The.” I imagine it would be a fruitless effort to keep an up-to-the-minute list of Doper names already in use. When I registered in June/2003 I was #36,501. Compare that with the latest member count and it gives an idea of how many are signing in. Good luck on the name change. Are you looking for suggestions? Z ---

FWIW, the other numbers up when I signed in were: 36,501 Members 187,024 Threads 3,512,345 Posts “The,” I was going to recommend “Ribbed Bit” or words to that effect to retain the amphibian nature of the original. ---

Sure. I think. When you signed up (as an example), 35,500 people had registered before you. However, some of them were returning trolls or people who simply signed up twice inadvertantly, and those accounts were subsequently deleted, and their user numbers could be reassigned to a new member. Therefore the “Total Members” stat remains a serial number (that is, every new member adds 1 to the total), whereas the user numbers can fluctuate. If user #435 were deleted (not banned, but deleted), then the next person to sign up would be assigned #435. That’s a completely WAG. An admin would have a better answer. ---

Thanks once more, **dantheman** , for the “straight dope” on some of the mysteries here. Since you’re #11,328 in Dec/2000, I guess you’ve seen a goodly portion of what’s happened over the past 2+ years. Is there a thread I could look at for an economical way to check all (or most anyway) previous thread titles? (Not that I really want to!) ---

I don’t think so. Your best bet, by the way, is to post questions about that in the ATMB forum, where the genial and kid-friendly Arnold will solve your problems quicker than you can say backslash backslash dot dot com. There IS a way to view all thread titles in a forum, but it places a tremendous strain on the server, IIRC. What you do is set the forum to “from the beginning”. I wouldn’t advise doing this, though. ---

Dear Crunchy Frog: I am so sorry for the following things: 1. The Braves have more players on the all-star team than the Cardinals (same number of starters, but more players overall). 2. The Braves have the best record this season in MLB. They lead their division by more than 8 games. The Cardinals’ lead in their own division, by way of comparison, is … one game. And thi is not due to the superiority of those teams. This is due to the Cardinals being four (4) games over .500, while the Braves are … twenty-five (25) games over. Again, so sorry. Maybe y’all can work out a trade to get some better players so your winning percentage can go up a bit past .523. Love, **punha** 😃 ---
