The title reminds me of a story. In college I was friends with a guy who I also fooled around with. He usually had a girlfriend but kept me on the side (I was young and dumb, what can I say). At the time of the story, he was in grad school and was seeing some girl there. Of course we continued to have phone sex and I would write him graphic letters, etc. Of course she read them and I would get messages left on my answering machine calling me a slut. Apparently Christian girls aren’t supposed to mess around. True, but the kicker is she considered herself a Christian but slept with him too 😕 I couldn’t even be upset because as she was insulting me she was insulting herself. But I still remember her slightly insane\* voice; “you slut! you are a slut!” 😃 \*He ended up making the commitment and seeing her exclusively and then marrying her, despite the fact that she smashed anything I ever gave him, sliced up his clothes and chased him around the apartment with a butcher knife. I think he was on a mission to find someone really needy and he did. ---

I always like the word “slut.” It’s not as harsh as “whore.” And I think it connotes some modicum of discrimination – a slut gets around a lot, likes to party and all the things that go with partying, she talks dirty and dresses … well, slutty. But never does it for favors or pay, or just because she feels like she has to. A slut knows how to say “no,” but chooses not to very often. A whore doesn’t know the word. I’m practicin’ to be a college English perfesser – can ya’ tell? ---
