Appropriate age to attend NFL game.

A better view when they’re at your end.
The last game I went to where I sat in the end zone they got to the 2 yard line as the last play of both the 1st & 3rd quarters then walked 90+ yards to promptly score. I only knew they scored by the roar of the crowd. Try figuring out where the ball is among 30 (including refs) people on the field 120 yards away is next to impossible.

Miss Greenjeans was 9 when she went to her first Eagles* game in a pink #5 jersey. It was a wonderful experience and created a great Daddy-Daughter memory. This was T.O’s first game back in Philly as a Cowboy and she heard several “Dallas Sucks!” chants, but I imagine your 8yo nephew has heard worse in the schoolyard. I think he’s at a great age to begin creating a team loyalty and a lifelong love of sports.

(* = And please don’t believe everything you hear about Eagles fans, even on the SDMB. Most are pretty good people.)

What is wrong with him???
And are we just gonna brush over the fact that the real issue is that he’s raising his nephew into being a Browns fan?

I mean, come on man, have a heart…

He’ll be fine. Be prepared to take a little walk around the stadium if he gets bored, but it’s just as likely he’ll be riveted to the seat watching the game. Also realize you might have to grab some food or hit the bathroom at a time convenient for him, which might correspond to an exciting part of the game you usually wouldn’t want to miss.

If you are worried about rowdy fans go to an early afternoon game. Only the most dedicated of drunks will be pounding drinks at 9am. Night games are the worst for drunken fans. Some pre-game from the early afternoon.

For example the Pumpkin Game. I got to witness this from the stands.

In my limited experience, end zone seats tend to attract the drunkest and rowdiest crowds. The seats are cheap and less likely to be sold as season tickets, so a group of 20-something guys can get in close to the field for a relatively cheap price. I’ve also noticed that the closer you get to the field and players, the more likely you are to hear abuse thrown at the opposing players, almost always in quite colorful language.

Moving over to the Game Room.

I wish I would have read some of the insights about end zone seats before I bought the tickets! I got some decent priced end zone seat/sideline seats. We are set to go!

LMAO about painting the belly. I’d be surprised if he’d go for it. He’s a quiet/shy kid, and that would be way out of his comfort zone. I can certainly run it past him.
Mr. GreenJeans- I won’t think badly of Eagles fans if you don’t think badly of Browns fans! It’ll be an interesting game with Ray Rice now being out.

Trout- I think he’ll be too excited to go during the game. I’ll make sure to sneak out during a time out and have him make it snappy , lol.

Loach- it is an early afternoon game. I wouldn’t want to take him to a 4pm game since he has school the next day and he’ll get home late.
I am so looking forward to going!! I want this to be a tradition for us.

Have him listen to Queen’s “We Will Rock You” before going. That way he knows what’s going on when that chant inevitably happens.

Have him prepare a variety of scriptures to supplement the John 3:16 on your rainbow wig.

Hotdogs, not nachos, are my preferred stadium food. Unless they have khav kahlash.

Are you going this week? He’d have a chance to see a sure Hall of Famer in Drew Brees, but the game probably won’t end well for the Browns.

Nachos all the way! Double sided cheese!
Bwahahaha @ khav kahlash. We won’t be eating that unless we have a Mountain Dew with it!

I’m taking him to the Ravens game  I don’t think there will be anything cool to see there besides a Browns win!

Despite the terrible loss yesterday, my nephew made it through is first NFL game! I’ve never seen that kid happier. Everyone around us was great and he’s excited to go again next year.

Cool! Thanks for checking in.

IMO, if he’s old enough to articulate a desire to see a game, then he’s old enough to go.

it’s good to get him acclimated to the Browns losing early in life so he won’t be devastated by it as an adult

Plus, if they do ever win, it’ll be that much sweeter.

Tell us about it!

How was the crowd around you? Were we right about things? What’d you eat?

As a Saints fan of 40+ years, yea verily this is truth. That one magical Super Bowl season wiped out all the pain and agony that preceded it.

I’m sure us Browns fans will see that glimmer of hope one day :frowning:

This is exactly what I told him with 2 minutes left in the 4th. When the Ravens were getting ready to kick the FG with 4 seconds remaining, I told him it’ll be in his best interest to close his eyes.

Ha…maybe next year

We missed kick off  I am still highly pissed about that. We took the public transit/rapid to the stadium, and left over an hour before the game started (its a 20 min. rapid station ride). We had an unexpected transfer, and that train was 15 minutes late. I was very, very upset and complained to the transit department. If I would have known about the transfer prior to getting on, I would have found a different means of transportation; but they didn’t say until right before we had to get off.

Besides that…

It was just an overall great experience for him. Kids grow up too darn fast! I am happy I was the one who was able to share his first NFL game experience with him.

The crowd around us was great! There was a bunch of drunk rowdy dudes behind us, but they kept it clean and kept on giving him high fives. The fans kept on telling him how great it is that he’s at his first game, and how exciting it is, etc. It was just a reassuring feeling although I knew what to expect with everyone’s help from here… so yes! The dopers were right about things (again!).

Food wise—he wasn’t hungry! We shared nachos and a pop. I asked him what he wanted to eat and he said “Auntie—the game satisfies my hunger.” He was so into watching the game. He stood up the entire time and was just memorized by it all. He asked if we can sit the same place next year. I better start saving up now.
