CAIRO, Egypt (AP) – Cheese-flavored Yasser Arafat potato chips – five cents a bag. Vendors report brisk sales of the new product. The maker of the chips says it donates five cents – 25 pisaters – to the “Palestinian cause” for every 50 packages sold. The chips are bagged in Palestinian colors – green, red, black and white – and carry the likeness of a rotund and wide-eyed Arafat, saluting with one hand and holding a Palestinian flag in the other. He’s dressed in his trademark military fatigues and black-and-white checked headgear. Shopkeepers say the Arafat chips, named Abu Ammar – the Palestinian leader’s nom de guerre, are considerably outselling another new brand, The Hero, which hit store shelves earlier this month. The packaging for that brand pictures a schoolboy holding a stone in his right hand and books in the other as he confronts an Israeli tank. “There’s no one who doesn’t love Abu Ammar,” said Iman Mohammed Darwish, a 12-year-old girl. “I like the taste, and I want to help the Palestinians.” Mmm, mmm, are they tasty—and one in every 100 bags explodes when you open it! The vending machine downstaris is selling “All-American” cookies, which – according to the label – features head shots of various American characters, like the English immigrant, Lady Liberty, and so forth. I haven’t tried them, but I suspect I won’t find a bearded Muslem guy in there. ---

I miss the red, white and blue M&Ms that were on sale for a while, with all the profits donated to the Red Cross. If I scarf down a bag of regular-colored M&Ms, I’m a glutton. But if I eat a pound of _red, white, and blue_ M&Ms, I’m a patriot. ---

I’m with **efrem**. There are hell of a lot of relief agencies trying to provide humanitarian aid and infrastructure repair to the Palestinians. Many rely on the generosity of muslims and non-muslims for donations. Slamming these crisps is just childish and unfair. ---

**Istara** and **Efrem**. you both, along with some other posters have shown a strong pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel bias, and that’s OK–we all have opinions. Not only does he have the blood of innocent Israeli civilians on his hands, he is a tryant who has turned the Palestinian Authority into a dictatorship, squelching all dissent and enriching himself from the treasury. Wishing to relieve the suffering of innocent Palestinians is one thing, but celebrating a monster like Arafat is another. ---

Arafat IS being promoted, but moreso is Palestinian independence and pride. however the money is for “Palestinian medical services for people injured in clashes with the Israelis”, not for Arafat’s pocket. If you don’t like that Arafat is on the front, fine, don’t buy them, buy “the Hero” one instead, or even better just cut the red tape and make a direct donation to a West Bank hospital. However, I have trouble with people stating (as the title says) “for the best in Jew-hating snacking pleasure!”, and that you are “killing a Jew with each crunch!”.
