How did Jughead get the name Jughead? What is his real name?

From the cobwebby depths of my recollection, he was born “Forsythe P. Jones”. (Although that could conceivably have been his Dad or an alias he went by in some vignette). Don’t know why “Jughead” other than to note that if you were named “Forsythe” you might prefer a nick yourself.

I assume he received the nickname “Jughead” because of those standout **ears** of his.
Or, as Big Ethel calls them, the “love handles.”
