I did cringe when I saw that a tentacle was torn off, but as you could guess, I am sensitive to that sort of thing. ---

Is “teuthis” even related to any other word? _Teuthis_ is the Greek word for cuttle-fish or squid. Occording to the OED, “teuthology” is “That branch of zoology which deals with cephalopods”; and one could hence also be a “teuthologist” (although if you introduced yourself as such at parties a lot of people would probably start telling you about their molars). ---
