Yes, that wind in your hair was from the whoosh passing over at high speed. I work often in Bakersfield, which is the Cleveland of CA, but without the sophistication. It has what I’m told is the biggest carrot processing plant in the country, IIRC. Then there’s the corn, cotton, grapes, citrus… ---

Why do you all think this girl has left the big city for a rural area? As I understand it, she is in Indianapolis (location of the Indiana State Fair). Where is she from in Cali? Indianapolis is bigger than any city in California except L.A. She might be from the Central Valley… Yuba City or something. I don’t think it’s urban/rural culture shock as much as rampant vegitarianism. ---

Wait, um…meat comes from cows, and stuff…?? That’s like, so totally gross! I mean Omigod. My friend, Brittany, she was like, trying to lose weight and stuff, and she tried like, the all protien diet? And she lost like, 50 pounds, but only because she like, got that e-coli stuff that you get from dead cows? And it was soooo totally buggy, because, like, now I know somebody who had e-coli. Yeah, it really is that bad. [Hijack] Two of my friends and I had to go to Oildale for a school thing. One of my friend was black, and the other white, my black friend wouldn’t sit in the front with her.[/Hijack] Don’t forget the REALLY bad air. Anywho, you get wackos everywhere, they’re just more concentrated in Bakersfield. ---

Ok… it is true. San Diego and San Jose are bigger than Indy. But my real point was that she might have come from a far more rural place than Indianapolis. ---

Ugh. I am from the old school. I don’t like seeing California being called “Cali.” Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Please. It’s not “hip,” it’s lame. Call it “California” or “Calif.” or “CA” if you must, but please, please, please, please—_not_ “Cali.” It’s even worse than calling soft drinks like Pepsi and 7-Up “pop.” (_Ugh_—and that’s pretty bad. _fingernails down blackboard_) As far as whether Californians are clueless, one of my friends, Native Californian Randy, explained it this way: “All the Californians who drive horribly and do all this stupid stuff are from somewhere else.” (Meaning, they moved to Calif. from Nebraska, or Indiana, or somewhere.) Makes sense to me! 😃 ---

Could it be that eating next to the place where cows were making cow chips causes a little nausea in the poor lady??? Oh, yeah, CA is terrible, rattlesnakes on every corner, masses of great white sharks swarming up and down the 700+ mile coastline just waiting to eat swimmers, death valley, Salton sea. It is a really terrible place. Please spare yourself California. ---
