The forty fruit tree is grafted, not hybridized. This means it’s really forty different trees assembled onto one tree which acts as a common trunk and roots.

Just to qualify this, there are such things as ‘graft hybrids’ where the tissues of the joined organisms intermingle throughout each other, but it doesnt sound like the 40 fruit tree is one of these.
