OK, so blame American domestic terrorism on the Irish rather than on Islam, or is it in addition to Islam? It’s all so confusing, not knowing who to blame American domestic terrorism on.

Some random tribe in BFA killing some other random tribe that I’ve never heard of or some random Jewish dude that might make the local news isn’t going to be perceived the same as what people do in the name of Islam. Sorry they ain’t equal.

That said, it’s easy to critique the Bible or Jesus without being called racist or having to worry about having your head sawed off. And here I thought the religions were identical? No? You can convert from Christianity without being stoned?

> It only “seems” that way to you because you have been conditioned to erroneously equate criticism of Islam with bigotry against Muslims. You are the one displaying symptoms of racism and bigotry, since you obviously have completely different standards regarding criticizing the intolerance of usually brown Muslims than you do for Kim Davis’s intolerance. That’s the very essence of racism.
>
> This is merely another attempt to polish your own halo, and simultaneously dismiss the arguments of others. If anyone has a negative opinion of Muslims, it is those who insist that the current state of Islam is acceptable and who deny religion’s role in the widespread suppression of human rights that Muslims suffer at the hands of other Muslims.
>
> A difference that you are not acknowledging is the much debated Islamic doctrinal decree against befriending (or taking as protector depending on translation) non-Muslims. Another is the strong anti-kuffar attitudes prevalent in Muslim communities. This attitude is not simply a result of ethnic cohesion, but is also a symptom of communities indoctrinated into an assimilation resistant ideology.
>
> Remember that your original cite about integration had the caveat that excluded gender relations. That’s a pretty giant “except for…”.
>
> This does not follow, unless you can show that Kim Davis is opposed to tolerance of homosexuality developing in Saudi Arabia or Egypt. My guess is that her attitude would mirror that of many Muslims in the West, that she would consider those societies immoral, and the people followers of a false religion, and so would not care at all whether homosexuality was tolerated there, unless she favored it’s acceptance there to bolster a narrative that non-Christian societies tended towards moral bankruptcy.
>
> We are talking about the upper-class section of society, fully literate, filled with people who have Western educations, and lots of money and opportunity.
>
> According to stats compiled by Mother Jones, using the traditional FBI definition, in 2015 there were four mass shootings, which involved five attackers, in which thirty seven people were killed. Three of the five attackers were Muslim, and nineteen of the thirty seven murder victims were killed by Muslims, in a nation which is roughly 1% Muslim.

>
> What percentage of White Supremacists/white racists attack synagogues or black churches? Does this mean that their ideology is just an excuse and not a contributing factor?
>
> This is just an assertion, with nothing to back it up. If you actually pay attention to the proclamations of those committing the attacks it is clear that Islam is more than just a convenient excuse. There are plenty of reasons to conclude that without exposure to Islamic ideology, many or most jihadist attackers would not have become mass killers.
>
> Yet the majority of both the perpetrators and the victims of mass shootings in 2015 have involved Islam in particular, in a nation with roughly 100x as many non-Muslims as Muslims.
>

>
> The niqab is a potent symbol of an oppressive, intolerant ideology. It is a declaration of adherence to a belief system that professes incredibly hateful things about gays, Jews, and non-Muslims generally, and challenges legitimacy of even the continued existence of these groups of people on the planet. Those who wear it among non-Muslims or progressive Muslims should not expect any more tolerance than one should expect if they were to wear a Klan hood into a predominantly black neighborhood, with the caveat that the woman wearing the garment might very well have little choice, which would be more akin to a child dressed up in Klan attire and brought to a black neighborhood. A sneer might not be the most helpful way to deal with either encounter, but it should be expected. And the fact that sneers or insults are the greatest threats that these kinds of displays usually elicit shows how far we, as a society, bend over backwards to respect free speech and expression of even the most hateful varieties.

Key word is “ideology.” If this was perceived as an ideology and not shielded with the label religion (other than Christianity) than this ideology would be attacked with a vigor by those on the morally bankrupt left. But since it’s a "religion " practiced by group perceived to be different than the domestic status who the willing adherents of this dangerous ideology are treated as potential numeric allies. It’s a very dangerous game the left plays and the ironic thing is if there isn’t a strong effort to assimilate and moderate Islamic thought the left are going to be the ones who suffer the most.

An “enemy” of an enemy is not always a friend.

I am not confusing anything.

Your persistent efforts to condemn the “ideology” while carefully never bothering to identify the various ideologies involved, lumping them all as “Islam,” demonstrates my point. The Islam haters will rationalize their hatred any way they can. Lumping or splitting as necessary and denying direct analogs with quibbling to avoid facing their actual perspectives.

Take niqab, replace with “cross”. Take references to muslims, replace with christians. It becomes an identically valid statement. Christianity can often be an oppressive, intolerant ideology (see treatment of homosexuals). It says many hateful things about gays, jews and non-christians generally.

Believe me, I’m more than happy with the starting point that all religions can (and have) been used as an excuse for evil behaviour. So do you suggest that we should ban all of them?

That’s just not true. Christianity and Islam and Hunduism etc are distinct. Not identical. Furthermore Christianity has been moderated and reformed at great costs historically. Islam is not there, yet, nor is it guaranteed to ever get there. Christianity is the subject of satire, lampooning, and vulgar treatment. I dare you to put a Mohammed or a Koran in urine and display it as great “art.” The motives for shielding Islam of a much needed critique and drastic reformation are obvious and sadly, for the left, ultimately counterproductive.

This is actually the thing that occurred to me while reading this thread. Would a woman wearing a cross be (justifiably, in the eyes of some posters) subject to automatic, reflexive “angry looks” or glares? The cross is a symbol of Christianity, and for many , that means it’s a symbol of oppression. Not all people see it that way, but some do. Is a cross the same as a t-shirt that wags a disapproving finger at homosexuality? For some, yes, it is. How about a woman who has had an abortion? A t shirt that pushes an extremely specific aspect of one’s religion – such as “Marriage is for straight people only. You fags don’t get to _marry_. PERIOD.” – well, that’s an aggressive message, one that is directed toward actual, individual people in a hurtful way. To equate that aggressive message with a passive observation of one’s faith - well, that seems disingenuous. A person wearing an anti-SSM slogan on a shirt is aggressive, in a way that wearing veils or a cross isn’t.

I put a drawing of Muhammad on the [front page my blog](http://maggieameanderings.com).

And the same image is on my [Archive page](http://maggieameanderings.com/Archive.htm).

I just did a piece called [“15 Reasons Why ISIS Is a Bunch of Total Losers”](http://maggieameanderings.com/2015-Dec-11.htm)

I spent the evening working on a piece I’m posting for the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attack. It includes a cartoon of Allah and Muhammad. The piece isn’t up yet, but I put the cartoon up so I could include the URL in the piece. You can see the cartoon [here](http://maggieameanderings.com/images/2016/Allah_w_light.png).

I’ve already given examples of the bible being used to justify child rape, abductions, and butchery. It’s the work of seconds to google christian beliefs on homosexuality (have a look at the attempt to make it punishable by death in Uganda). You must surely know about Westboro baptist and others.

Judaism, as already pointed out, has been used to justify terrorist attacks in the US. There’s also the massive issue of the repression of palestinians.

Hinduism has been used to justify all manner of nastiness, from the caste system to Saffron terrorism.

But somehow you like to focus only on Islam as being used to justify barbarism. Funny that, eh.

It seems to me that non-Christians in the United States should be losing patience with Christians, judging by [this recent bit of news](http://news.yahoo.com/americans-think-christians-freedoms-more-150311101.html):

> [@](#):
>
> Americans overwhelmingly support safeguarding religious liberties for Christian believers, but they’re less keen on protecting Muslims’ religious liberties, a new national survey found.
>
> The poll, from the Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found that 82% of Americans consider it extremely or very important to protect Christians’ freedoms, while only 61% think it’s important to protect Muslims’ freedoms.

That pesky constitution doesn’t seem to concern some people, does it?

> Ethnicity, race, and sexual orientation are not the same as adherence to a particular belief system.

Not identical, no, but similar - entrenched characteristics that are key to a person’s identity, and form a basis for discrimination. This is why such characteristics are commonly grouped together, e.g.:

[Civil Rights Act](https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964/Title_III)
All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, and privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin.

[Universal Declaration of Human Rights](http://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/)
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

> [@Hank Beecher](#):
>
> Those who fail to make this distinction give support to those, often racist, essentializers who respond to criticism of their ideologies with accusations of racism and bigotry. For example, a big part of David Duke’s shtick is to portray opposition to racist, neo-Confederate, movements as an attack against white people generally, as if some innate quality of white people makes them require tolerance of this intolerant belief system for survival. Similarly, when Islamist groups like CAIR respond to criticism of Islam or Islamism, they rely on the narrative that (their version of) Islam is an essential characteristic of all Muslims. This reinforces the viewpoint that those who criticize or leave (the Islamists version of) Islam are undergoing some kind of unnatural, beastly, transformation.

Some “criticism” is, in fact, bigotry and/or racism. It’s not all that hard to spot the difference, given a reasonable sample size.

[
Just out of curiosity what was your opinion, say 20 years ago, regarding people of Irish extraction being allowed to walk around unmolested in the UK.
[/QUOTE]

During the troubles I lived in a military town and we were bombed by the IRA, Two public houses I used in another town were bombed by the IRA luckily I changed my plans for the evening and went elsewhere. It became a natural reaction to become alert to a Irish accent. This did not mean that I held all Irish men and woman guilty. What was happened was division between the Irish people that caused the troubles to continue and for this I did blame the Irish, people were doing nothing to put a stop to the troubles only apportioning blame. It was only through the peace movement (ordinary people) that the troubles have ceased. But there are still evil men and woman on both sides who would like to see the troubles continue. Another major problem was the attitude of Americans that the IRA were folk hero’s, this sadly aloud millions of dollars to be collected to support the lads back in Ireland. One of the problems America has is the physical distance they had from the Irish problems, and now also the Islamist problems in Europe.
One thing I would like to see happen is the banning of Facebook it is the realm of liars, bigots, racists and the security services, I personally stay away from it as none of the information can be trusted. This is causing a great deal of misinformation that is deliberately muddying the waters on the Islamic issue. On the far right you have the hate merchants BNP (think KKK) and on the far left you have the UAF ( Unite Against Fascism founded by a Leninist, a Stalinist and a Trotskyite so Communist) The security services spreading their usual misinformation. The major problem we have is there is no Peace Movement and I cannot see that happening. One thing that must not be done is to dump the problem on the shoulders of the white population, many Sikh’s, Hindu’s, Buddhists, and Asian Christians have problems with Islam many coming to the UK to escape religious persecution by Islamists. Do I have contact with any Muslims? Yes mainly from Islamic countries because they disagree with Sharia Law, they stay away from mosques and usually meet in peoples homes, the problem is that these type of Muslims are rarer than hens teeth. As far as I know they all have arranged but loving marriages. the problem they say is that they are in the minority.
Just a thought are Muslim entering a strange land using the Mosque as an anchor and are scared of letting go just as in some catholic countries the church has far to much power, maybe to reduce the Islamic problem is to reduce the power of the Mosque, one of the complaints I have heard from young Muslims is the importation of Mosque leaders from third world countries who speak little or no English and have no idea about living in a Weston country.
