Having studied spiders at length, and read a fair bit about insects, there is no way they are simple or machine-like robots. You’ll just have to read my book when it comes out next February!
If all species became intelligent they’d be putting forward their own agendas and fighting ours.
Eating them, taking all their honey etc.might well go against the grain.
Now as to making cows wear bras and other animals,trousers to cover up their genitalia? Idont think that any reasonable adult could NOT find this a very sensible idea.
If people genuinlly had the moral decency that they spout off about in public but seemingly fail to practice in private then this would have been put into effect a good many years ago instead of just being a good idea still on the drawing board.
The hypocrisy of people in the Western World when it comes down to decent,traditional values is beyond notoriety.

How can you,yes YOU consider yourself to be a fit parent when almost on a daily basis there is a good likelyhood that your young children will see dogs,cats and god knows what other animals,penis’s and testicles .
We can only guess at the long term psychological damage that this causes the children on their long road to maturity,let alone the immediate traumatising effect it can have on some little ones.
Frankly the time for discussing this subject is long gone and now its time to actually DO something.

I know I’m being picky here, but I don’t think “sapient” is quite the right word here to desciribe what’s being suggested. “Sapient” means “Possessed of great wisdom.” St. Augustine was sapient; I’m not.

I see problems inherent in creating a “smart” dog, capable not only of opening the refrigerator, but of concocting a plan to do in its humans and have sole access to said refrigerator, not to mention calling out for pizza.
I do not rule out “engineering” tastier cows.

The setting of the novels is a universe in which races gain power by Uplifting pre-sapient ‘client’ species to the level of starfaring races: a client species serves a substantial term as an indentured servant species to their patron species. I very much believe that furniture limbs should be covered from public gaze.
While not all men are morally weak many are mere slaves to their senses and cant resist any quick fix of pleasure when the opportunity offers itself.
Lets be honest with our selves furniture limbs are suggestive of human limbs with all the connotations that go with it.
Can any male Doper truthfully say that on occasions the sight of an undressed piano limb for example,has not aroused some of his baser urges to the forefront of his mind and even led him to commit unnatural acts with himself.
If any male Doper says he hasn’t then I call that man a brazen and unconvincing liar before the world.
We all have sin within us myself included but we must struggle to overcome these urges however tough it may be to do so and quite frankly it doesn’t help matters when everywhere you go there are nude caricatures of womens legs on display to all and sundry.
It could well be that women become the innocent victims of males whos senses have become inflamed by such sights.
Though in all honesty women are usually the willing tools of humanitys baser nature and deliberately set out to undermine mans naturally superior moral strengths with their sly perverted ways but we must look on them with forgiveness as they are weak,childlike creatures for whom it is our duty as adult males to instill discipline into them,direct them to right thoughts and actions and of course protect them from the worlds temptations.

Womenfolk are not qualified to opine on rational written arguments my dear chap. 
Everybody knows that the only way to impart wisdom on our beloved female companions is to tell them a fairy tale with a moral to it. For instance, Little Red Ridinghood tells little girls “Obey your parents instructions if you don’t want to be eaten (clearly a euphemism for rape) along with your grandmother.”
It also works on another level for older women: “Some wolves (men) will have sex with anyone” which I’m sure gives sexually unfulfilled grannies everywhere a glimmer of hope."

Sapient is often used as a synonym for “human level or higher intelligent being” as well.
