Are busing & white flight avoided as a topics in US high school history classes?

I’m remembering an old Dave Barry article where he talked about the same thing. Every year in school during history class, the teacher would spend six months talking about Ancient Sumeria and dawdle her way up to the Romans. Then she would realize that the year was almost over and cover the middle ages to the present day in one week. Next year would start back with the ancient Sumerians…

I fill in the gaps for my kids on my experiences in being bussed to a particularly nasty part of town for my 9th grade year. Some of the details not to be missed include how the staff hosed down the hallways to clear the blood, how the curriculum was so bad that I was sick for 2 weeks with the chicken pocks and came back to take finals (and maintained a 4.0 average throughout), and how glad I was to have survived that year. Yeah, I am always happy to help out with a great social experiment like that one.
