But you’ve been here since 2000. This is a message board for fans of The Straight Dope by Cecil Adams. Would you go to a Sherlockian message board and protest that Arthur Conan Doyle just made everything up? If so, how rude of you!
I went to a dopefest once and someone there (name escapes me) said it best,
“I think Cecil is like Homer, not necessarily one person, but a contribution of many good writers, all combining their talents into one great one”
I honestly could care less the relationship between the two, I love the articles; hell I’m willing to pull my bus over and have people whining they are gonna miss their train just so I can grab a copy of the San Jose metro and read the Straight Dope.
…Yeah I could just read it online, but I can’t use my smartphone when I’m driving the bus, and I like reading on my breaks! 
There is only one Cecil, and Una is his assistant.
The first time I read this, I pictured a bald Cecil holding a doughnut.

I’ve been to his house - too much heavy furniture. I’ll bring pizza and “supervise” instead. 
That’s the first pillar of the Straight Dope. I think the other four are:
2) Pilgrimage to Chicago if you can afford it, at least once in your life.
3) Five weekly readings of the Straight Dope column.
4) Charitable behavior towards those new to the Straight Dope.
…what’s the fifth one? I always get hung up on that one.
