Good to hear, and I hope he enjoys them. I’m curious too, so I’ll reiterate the question–what kind were they?
An “Ask the Cigar Guy” thread? Well, I guess Stratocaster and I would be there promptly, and I know there are a few other Dopers who are into cigars as well. (I also enjoy my pipes and pipe tobaccos, so maybe there’s a similar idea.) Hmmm…?
I’d love to see “Ask the Cigar Aficionados”, as well. If there’s one thing I like talking about, it’s cigars and humidors and meticulously fussing with them and obsessing over them to the point your wife wants to kill you. I’d definitely have a few questions and maybe a few answers for that thread.
I also have a burning desire to know what kind they are.
Here’s a cigar tip, no extra charge. I just got done smoking a La Aroma De Cuba, a corona, and it was fantastic–again. It’s become my standby brand, in particular Churchills and robustos. This is a terrific and inexpensive smoke, if you like them toward the full-bodied end of the spectrum. Smoked it whilst drinking a couple of Mooseheads. All I needed was harem girls fanning me with palm fronds and the decadent enjoyment would have been complete.
I smoked a CAO Brazilia Gol!–which is a thick robusto–this morning at the smoke shop, which is also one of my standard brands. A bit more expensive, but always a good smoke. A powerful cigar, burns evenly, beautiful dark wrapper. (I’m off this week, and I’m smoking more than usual. What the hell, I’m entitled. :))
As gifts this Christmas, I received a box of Macanudo Hyde Parks, which are robusto-ish. A nice, mild smoke, with a pretty complex flavor. Also received assorted La Aroma De Cubas (from someone who had heard me lauding them) and another bundle of assorted sticks from a smoking buddy. Anybody else get anything good?
They’re, I think, “Hoyo de Monterrey” Excaliburs, but the word “maduro” appears somewher in it. If it isn’t obvious, I know almost literally nothing about cigars. He says they’re great.
