# Are DVD easter eggs defunct?

The “easter-eggs” I’m referring to are the scenes/footage/outtakes that are hidden in the DVD menu screens. The last ones I remember were from the LOTR extended DVDs where in some of the menus you could scroll left or right and a hidden icon would appear to reveal MTV gollum footage.  
Do they not put these in DVDs anymore?  
Even the old popular website “[dvdeastereggs.com](http://dvdeastereggs.com)” looks to be rarely updated.

There are easter eggs in the \*Ratatouille \*DVD … but I don’t know if you consider that “recent.”

There is one in the fourth Futurama movie, just released a few weeks ago. so no, they aren’t dead. They just depend on producers and programmers willing to put in a little extra effort to create something that only the obsessive (or those who will look for the info on the Net) will ever see.
