# Are kids crazy nowadays?

In 1992 four girls tortured and killed a 12-year-old girl in New Albany, Ind., near where I grew up. It was horrifying. [Shanda Sharer](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Shanda_Sharer). What made news at the time was that the murderers were all girls.
