As a guy who coaches baseball at the high school level, I’d just like to say that my ass looks spectacular in tight baseball pants. Therefore, I am strongly in favor of this rule.
Looks like it might be an insulated hat,though it certainly has a similar front profile to a fedora.
After all, it was -13F that day. I’ve been to cold games at Lambeau (around 0 or so) in modern cold-weather clothing; I can’t imagine how miserable it was to be there, in 1960s-vintage clothing.
Well, Tom Landry was always pretty candid about why he wore the fedora in the first place- he was bald, and it kept his head warm on the sidelines at chilly Yankee Stadium, where he first started coaching with the New York Giants.
