My observation is that many of these people feel trapped in a world they don’t really understand, and it feels secure to cling to simple beliefs like God doing everything and that we’re special. They lock their mindset to protect themselves. I’ve heard many who have deconverted from fundamentalist Christianity say they are still petrified of hell. It must be very difficult.
Part of the reason things like creationism and flat earthism are sticky is that the arguments are really superficial; they are designed (or at least refined) to shut down further inquiry or discussion - to make the questions go away as quickly as possible.
Ya know folks, they must almost all be trolls. Look what they have done here. NOT ONE response from a flat earther. And look what it did. We, and I am putting energy into responding to this. Though, I am kinda watching the Superbowl too.
