Ya’know, the only thing I find more annoying than trolls are people that flame first and ask questions later. Welcome aboard, Stranger. I, for one, always like to see new blood in the MB, particularly intelligent and literate blood. Ignore the idiots and hang around. Don’t be a “Stranger” in GQ. Stranger…not sure what you went thru, but everyone has been pretty cool to me since I started posting. I pretty much stick to MPSIMS tho as I like the mundane and pointless. I do have an unusual sense of humour and sometimes people have a hard time deciding if I am serious or not and they tend to get testy… but I don’t take it personally. I started this, allow me to end it. Everything I have posted is true, although sometimes a bit convoluted. My father died last December. As a good Italian Catholic son, I left Los Angeles (Santa Monica) to be with him in the ICU at Bellevue, WA (Eastside of Seattle). I don’t think he ever recognized me, and it was pure horror watching him die. Currently, I am living in his house and attempting to get his estate in order. I was named his “executor” after my parents were divorced. The attorneys tell me it could be 6-8 months before the whole thing is settled. Interesting how “distant” family members suddenly appear. Anyway, that’s why I’m a bit touchy these days. Probably a bad time to log in, but I appreciate the feedback. Dave’s not here, man… ---

hey, stranger (not you, jeff!), sorry about the stuff on the home front. my sympathies on your dad. but you weren’t being overly sensitive. milo & fuzzy were right. in the past month several folks here have started threads about how regulars are overly harsh on & distrustful of newbies & the regs invariably deny it. a few of the regs are humor impaired (like maybe flyp?) & others just say stuff that they intend to be funny but it comes out wrong (hi, vince). you do need to develop a bit thicker skin; but you have other stuff on your mind right now. in the larger context, it may have been good for you to blow off a little steam here in order to handle the death/estate stuff better. hang in there. * * * Stay with me folks, I’m certain I’m driving towards a conclusion here, but I refuse to stop and ask for directions. . . . Well Hello, Stranger, Beatle pegged it when he suggested the “Dave?” comment was merely a joke. It so happens that someone I know quite well is named Dave, and raves, on occasion, like you did in your test post. Wonderful person, just a little hard to comprehend sometimes. It was not a joke that you would understand, necessarily, but I know that at least one or two other posters on this board **would** (for that matter, the Dave in question may well be a poster on this board, or at the very least, lurking on the fringes). I apologize that my joke was at your expense. I should have thought before I impulsively said something that might come across as offensive. From one relative newbie to another, welcome. I have my own personal rules for making my SD experience enjoyable, but I’ll keep them to myself. Everyone has to decide on their own what’s comfortable for them. Just one tip that hasn’t been mentioned though… Either use the search feature or prepare to possibly have to put on your asbestos suit when you post a new topic. Some people get a little snippy if you post something they’ve talked about before - even if it was 2 years ago. I’ve only been mildly spanked once (at a time when the search engine wasn’t even working - and everyone knew that), but I’ve seen a lot of people get raked over the coals for being “too lazy” to search, _especially_ if they’re asking a question in GQ. Just something to keep in mind.
