Oh, great. Neo-Puritans, those who are “tortured by the thought that somewhere, someone is enjoying life.” Don’t drink? Good–and that is honest. But don’t get all pissy, self-righteous, anal and judgmental about it. Your choice; you made it now shut up, grow up and stop projecting your choices onto others. In my opinion, good wine, good company and good food make life worthwhile. Indulge in the grape? You betcha. And beer too; an mug of honest, well-brewed, carefully crafted beer is a joy and grace-note in life. And you bet your ass it includes spirits carefully chosen and well enjoyed. Enjoyment doesn’t equal sin. You draw the lines you want. But I’d rather be flambed over a smokeless fire with a WD-40 baste than share in your puritanism. FWIW, I’d rather spend time w/ someone who gotten honestly drunk (in vino veritas) and learned to handle it rather than purse-lipped puritans. For me, it comes down to embracing life and generosity. Danged if I’ll let any hype-ridden, tight-sphinctered, righteous _prune_ guilt me out of life. Mistakes? It’s life. Get used to it; ain’t a rehearsal. You can make gutsy or wimpy mistakes, but you’re gonna make 'em. And you’ll live with 'em, excessive or etoliated. I for one plan to be a magnificent old lady, sipping good wine a la MFK Fisher on the porch of the rest home. I’ll stomp my cane, turn the air blue and recount uncomfortable truths about “the good old days”. It’s all choices; enjoyment doesn’t equal laxity, lack of moral fiber or weakness. People who draw fine, self-righteous lines piss me off, mainly because they’re strangling themselves. Starvation is as damaging as excess. Damn, when did people get so _scared_ of life? Veb ---

I get happier and happier until I fall over. Due to a lifetime of experience (or as far as I’ve got by now, anyway) I prefer to drink until I’m having fun (usually a result of the company, not the booze), then moderate my intake to prevent inadvertant tipping over. I prefer to stay conscious for the life of the party, rather than try to _be_one. BTW, I’m not drinking right now, but I will be soon! I found a bottle of a very nice brandy for only a few dollars more than my usual brand (never, _ever_ drink E&J unless you mix it with something fürst). Now if only I had some Baker’s Sweet Chocolate…? ~~Baloo ---

Technically, I’ve been sober every time I post… however, sleep deprivation usually sets in around 2:00-3:00 AM… and I can keep going an hour or two after that. I’m 18 (almost 19!)… what’d you expect? Rationality? ---
