**Are Pepe Le Pew catoons still aired on TV given he’s a sexual predator & borderline rapist?** There more pertinent question is are any of those good old Warner Bros. cartoons still being aired, given that they’re actually funny and smart? ---

Someone should just own up that a lot if these classic toons were NOT “Children’s” fare. Pepe, in his general presentation as a B-flick boulevardier, was ostensibly a takedown of the arche/stereotype of the suave European who would supposedly just seduce the pants off any naive young lady (and now that I think of it probably had an element of the the mid-century American stereotype that Europeans did not bathe often and thus smelled…); notice how his target is usually absolutely unimpressed, meaning the archetype is imploded right off the bat. But beyond that, Pepe’s portrayal was a takedown of the not-nationally-specific “Ladies’ Man” or what is now, 60 years later, the Pick-Up-Artist. The obliviousness, the self-delusion, the not taking no for an answer, the casual disregard for how the target of his unwanted attentions was quite repulsed, even more the basic utter cluelessness about how it was a cat that had a painted stripe, not a fellow skunk. Pepe’s \*\*not \*\*the hero, he’s the clown. Heck, Pepe’s toons should be widely seen and screened so this behavior can be mocked. And while we’re at it: Bring back Speedy. He always ended up \*outsmarting \*everyone else! Who the hell complained??? ---

Pepe’s fault is painfully obvious: Unless he addresses the audience–which he often does–his eyes are closed, which to me betokens ignorance. That, along with the vise - like grip of his “forearms,” seems to be the crux of the story line–along with the hapless cat being conveniently mute. Pepe is also too stupid to distinguish between the natural smell of a female skunk and the fumes of whatever variety of paint got spilled on the cat. ---
