# Are professional hitmen a myth?

If you look at the classified ads in the back of _Hustler_, you’ll find women who are offering their services as “escorts” or “masseuses”. Many of these women are obviously actually working as prostitutes.

By the same token, it used to be if you looked in the classified ads in the back of _Soldier of Fortune_, you’d find ads from men offering their services as “mercenaries”. Many of these men were actually working as hitmen. Lawsuits, negative publicity, and the threat of criminal liabity eventually forced _Soldier of Fortune_ to start screening out these ads.
