No, I think it was from a BBC web site article, which mentions a few other British restaurants with a reputation of rude service (e.g. the Coach and Horses pub).
Are Restaurants Where The Staff Is Deliberately Rude To You, But In A "Fun" Way, A Thing Outside US?
I’ve never been to a place where it is a general theme. I’ve certainly had waitstaff that could pull off the rudeness shtick well, and earn even bigger tips because of it.
In Sudbury there was a waitress in a diner in Copper Cliff who was down right abusive, but most workdays, my father and several of his co-workers would chow down at that diner, with insults raining down on them. It wasn’t an act. It was the way she communicated.
The year my dad retired from INCO and no longer ate lunch at the diner, she and one of her co-workers turned up at our door at Christmas with a delicious turkey.
He died that spring, and she and the other waitress attended his memorial service.
Sometimes abuse is quite the opposite.
I hope not.
