Seems as if this was more personal expernce on your part then as you state ‘now for the more scientific’, or the emotional appeal as to ‘why the medical community allows this to happen’.
I’m not convinced root canals are a problem. Bacteria need living or dead tissue to multiply. Any bacteria within the canal would eventually eliminate its own source of survival medium. Secondly, there is no blood supply to the tooth after a root canal so any bacteria in the canal has no way to get into the blood stream. Thirdly, if bacteria on non living parts of the body was dangerous, then we’re all in trouble. Most of us have 20 dead nails resting on a bed filled which kills any bacteria. I have a few root canals and I’m not having any issues.
as much as I think I do a good job on root canals, I am sure we(dentists) don’t get perfect apical seals and the are unfilled microscopic accessory canals.
After reading most of the banter on this subject, it’s obvious that no one has read a book called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by the head of the American Dental Association less than 80 years ago. His worldwide dental research with the support of hundreds of lab technicians is fascinating. The photographs and records are clear reports of his findings. If anyone is serious enough to go beyond the current dogma and one’s own narrow personal experience, he will find enlightenment there.
Actually, he founded the National Dental Association, which later became the research institute of the American Dental Association. From the Weston Price Wiki
To find out what he is (in)famous for, read the section of endontics and focal infection.I, for one, am glad that dental science has progressed beyond such things in the last century.
Well, I for one refuse to accept any research more recent than 80 years ago. I do not believe in nuclear power, silicone breast implants, statins, or the internet.
And frankly, these days, as I age, I’m mostly concerned about keeping my humors in balance.
can’t speak for others, but my narrow personal experience consists of receiving 6 root canals and preforming about 2000, 4 years of dental school and 24 years of practice.
I’d be surprised if any Weston Price devotee was worried about toxins from root canals. According to the WP dogma, all you need to do is regularly swish coconut oil around in your mouth for long periods of time, and it’ll draw out all the Toxins (as well as driving your spouse to divorce).
Most people responding here have already chosen their stand and locked the door. Everyone is free to do so. However, I’m wondering if any of you have read a book by one of the founding members of the American Association of Endodontists. From the 1940’s to the 1990’s he happily performed root canals. In June 1993 (too ancient?) he published a book about his change of mind and his reasons. If anyone’s door is still open, check out “Root Canal Cover Up” by Dr. George Meinig.
