> Actors and others in the industry usually don’t follow sexual norms, and never have. For that matter, they don’t follow any other norms, either. Extrapolating behavior from this very small subset of women will lead to incorrect conclusions.
>
> I’m in my mid fifties, married, one adult child. I live in Texas, which isn’t what I’d call the heartland. I’ve never been clubbing, and for that matter, I’ve never been drunk. The most alcohol I’ve ever had in a 24 hour period would be the equivalent of 2 or 3 drinks (it was basically a supersized mojito).
>
> Quite possibly I’m old enough to have lived in the time when Rob Lowe (whoever he is, I know I’ve heard the name but can’t place him) picked up a lesbian couple. However, I try to avoid celeb news. Really, I don’t care about which actor is doing which other actor. I don’t care who is in rehab. And I don’t really care much about celebs’ sex lives, for the most part. I was rather surprised to find out that Raymond Burr was gay, but the only reason I remember it is because my father used to watch Perry Mason all the time, and I’d watch it with him, and I made a mental note to never bring this up in front of Daddy.
>
> The thing is, people who are in showbiz tend to have a distorted view of what people who AREN’T in the biz do and think. Yeah, some people love to follow certain celebrities, and will describe in tedious detail the minutiae of their obsession’s lives. But those people aren’t the norm, either…it’s just that the celebs will hear from and about these people more often, in a self-perpetuating cycle.

Good point…but you’ve never been to a club before nor a party I’m guessing, so how would you know what happens? I’m not sure if about the club scene he’s talking about regular women or models. Either way my point still stands…the majority of girls I know by far are bi or les, although not as extreme as below makes it, so I’m asking my question.

You’re basically saying that all women love to adopt a dozen or so African babies becauyse Angelina Jolie does. this is the problem with sample size. Get a wrong sample, you get a very strange idea about society when you extrapolate outward. For example, in my parent’s neighborhood, there are MANY obviously adopted children. I say obviously adopted because the children are black or asian and the parents are not. If I say to you “MOST or ALL (like, 90%) of people with children have adopted them from Africa or Asia” you would look at me like I’m crazy. It is so obviously untrue. the only reason it seems to true to me, is that I looked around ONLY in one specific place, a place that is not representative of American parents as a whole.

“Models, actresses and Hot Young Things in the Club Scene in Miami” do not consitutute “all women.” If they constitute “all the women you know” then bless you child, you are certainly living an interesting life.

IN FACT most women are not Models, Actresses or Hot Young Things. In fact you could stop at “young.” Most American women are not young. Women from age 18-24 are about 14 million, or less than 10% of the female population of the United States. BY contrast there are 70 million women from age 25-59.

I’ve been to clubs.

On an unrelated note, I have one (1) out bisexual friend. She’s a serially monogamous female who tends to go from a same sex to opposite sex relationship, or at least that was the pattern when last I heard from her. Quite attractive as well. The point of course is that this anecdote is completely irrelevant to how people in general act, just like your clubbing/model narrative. For instance, have you considered that “I’m a lesbian” might just be something that hot models say _to you_, but may not reflect their actual life choices?

On the other hand, your initial question makes a lot more sense with respect to morays. It turns out that many species of moray eel are hermaphrodites, either changing from one gender to the other over their lifespan, or being both genders simultaneously. Clearly morays are bi- and bi-curious.

Fish are perverts. Especially guppies.

::sigh:: Yes, I’ve been to parties. And I even talk to people who DO go clubbing, and decline their invitations to go to clubs (I can’t breathe in smoky atmospheres). So while I may not have vast personal experience in clubbing, I do hear stories. Now, sometimes the stories are about how a couple of girls were kissing each other for attention, and sometimes they’re about how Billy Bob broke a chair over Marty Joe’s head because of how Marty Joe looked at Billy Bob’s girl. I’m sure that I don’t get the whole experience, but yeah, I do know what goes on.

And the majority of girls you know are not the majority of girls…or women. I mean, the majority of people I know in person are Hispanic or Caucasian, and either staunchly Catholic or staunchly evangelical Christians. And just about every single one of them is extremely conservative. But that’s a function of where I live. If I lived on one of the coasts, I’m sure that the people I would know in meat space would be more agnostic to downright atheistic, and would be far more liberal. I personally know only one lesbian in this area, even though my group of friends and acquaintances is much larger than in any other place that I’ve lived. I knew far, far more lesbians in a small town in Mississippi than I do in this huge metroplex. Partly, I suspect, because being a lesbian in these here parts is still nearly enough to get a woman lynched, but partly because of the particular groups that I hang out with here, as opposed to there. Different groups are going to have different proportions of lesbians or gays in them, depending on how gay friendly they are.

The majority of people that I know, in person, are not representative of the majority of people in the US. And the majority of “girls” that YOU know are not the majority of girls, either in the US or in the world.

They’re all getting it on with other women, apparently. In the last six or seven years, 80 percent of women have switched from being straight to bisexual or lesbian. Don’t ask me why the OP’s observations don’t match mine- maybe I was misinformed about the gay and lesbian population in New York.

> First, I already know that nearly all girls are bi/bicurious/lesbian(90%) and that the vast majority of girls are experimental and get with girls all the time. But, this is for the very few girls who are actually straight. Are these girls usually unattractive? Everyone talks about how bi girls and lesbians are hot and guys always talk about them. The media portrays bi girls and lesbians as sexy too. But straight girls are never talked about or noticed, although they aren’t many to talk about. Is this because they’re the ones who are fat, ugly, or nerdy looking girls? Are straight girls straight just because they aren’t good looking enough to get a girl?

OK, I was wrong, you didn’t say all, you said “nearly all”. However, you phrased it in such a way as to declare that this is a universal truth.

Although the OP is clearly all kinds of foolish, I do think he’s accidentally stumbled upon some very small smidgen of actual truth: In some sense, I do believe that women _who identify_ as lesbians or bisexual may be slightly hotter, on average, than those who identify as straight, assuming that we define “hotness” to include personality.

The reason is simple enough: A woman who actually thinks enough about her sexual desires, and is honest enough about them, to identify as lesbian/bi probably actually cares about and enjoys sex. This, in itself, is an attractive trait in a lover, and it’s not universal - many women are still raised to believe that it’s inappropriate to openly enjoy sex or be sexually aggressive.

Note that I am _not_ suggesting that there are not many, many, many straight women who also enjoy sex and are open about this, and thus have that very same attractive trait. For that matter, I’m sure there are many bisexual or gay women who aren’t at all into sex. The _only_ point I’m making is that in order for a woman to openly identify as bisexual or lesbian, she almost certainly has to be at least somewhat interested in sex for the fun of it (else why consider the matter?), and this is an attractive trait.

P.S. Note further, I’m not suggesting that a _lack_ of sexual desire or sexual interest is a bad trait, or that women who don’t like sex are bad people. I’m only talking about hotness/attractiveness, and we all know many people who like and respect greatly, but would never sleep with.

Apparently you’ve never heard of “[Lesbian Bed Death](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesbian_bed_death)” - the tendency of lesbian couples to have less sex than any other type of couple.

No, it doesn’t. “Bisexual” means you are sexually attracted to women and men. You can kiss someone for shits and giggles, without being attracted to them at all or having any sexual interest in women.

If you had a gay friend and he said “quick, give me a big hug so that hottie over there will will be jealous” and you do it, you did not suddenly become bisexual. Assuming that you were not attracted to men sexually before the hug, it did not make you gay, I promise.

No, I hadn’t. Ignorance fought, and this evidence makes my belief (that women who identify as bi/lesbian are more sexually interested) less likely to be correct. I may well be wrong. Thank you!

(This, OP, is how gentlemen respond when they’re shown to be mistaken).

Of course, my inner pedant insists I point out that “open lesbians/bi women care more about sexual satisfaction” and “open lesbians/bi women have less sex” are not mutually exclusive statements. One could still conclude “Women who identify as lesbians/bisexual women have less sex than straight women, but care more (on average) about enjoying the sex that they do have.” But that’s a quibble, and even I don’t find it terribly compelling.
