Strawberries are usually referred to as aggregate fruits, I believe. The individual fruits, themselves ( i.e. the “seeds” on the outside ), are achenes.

I have eaten wild strawberries growing at 5000ft in the Cascade Mts. Tiny fruit but oh so flavorful.
(I also picked strawberries and other “fruits” for summer work in the foothills of the Cascades.)
No tropical associations in my mind.
