Are the Braves the only franchise to win their league championship in three different cities?

That is actually technically accurate.

So in 1889 the Brooklyn Bridegrooms (AA) came in 1st but lost the World Series of the time to the NY Giants (NL).

In 1890 the Brooklyn Bridegrooms moved to the NL and came in first. But they tied the AA champs: Louisville Colonels in the World Series.

So they came close to technically winning in 3 cities. But I doubt any Brooklyn Dodger fans would have acknowledged that their Dodgers/Robins/Superbas/Trolley Dodgers/ Bridegrooms/Grooms/Grays/Atlantics played in 2 different cities before abandoning them for LA.

East Rutherford, NYC, and ???

ETA: Missed all the updates. Thanks! Ignore me.

Hell, those New York Football Giants have played their home games in three different states.

Blue Jays play home games in 2 countries. (Toronto & Buffalo NY)

The Montreal Expos played home games in Puerto Rico (US). So also 2 countries in same season.

Then we have the stunt games in Mexico, London, Tokyo & even Sydney.

I attended Yankees home games in Shea (Queens, NY) (1974-75) and a Rays home game at Citi Field vs. the Yanks.

BTW: Shea was always a garbage stadium, Citi Field is an excellent stadium.

The Jays, of course, played home games in three different cities just in 2021, something I think is safe to say is an extremely rare event.

I agree. They did a great job with Citi Field. I’m a Yankee fan but I love seeing games there.

WHA/NHL teams have two multiple city championship winners.

New England Whalers 1973 (Boston) and Carolina Hurricanes 2006 (Raleigh)
Quebec Nordiques 1977 (Quebec City) and Colorado Avalanche 1996 2001 (Denver)

They were in Hartford for a while, too.

How about the New York/New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets?

But they didn’t win in Hartford.

They sucked where ever they were. Ok so they did win 2 ABA championships in New York. 0 in the NBA.

The Nets were in 3 different places in New Jersey. Their first season in the ABA they were known as the New Jersey Americans. They played at the Teaneck National Guard Armory. The next year they moved to Long Island and became the Nets. When they left New York their new home at the Meadowlands wasn’t ready so they played one year at Rutgers in Piscataway NJ.

Basketball used to be pretty transient. When Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game for the Philadelphia Warriors, they were playing in Hershey, PA, and the game wasn’t even televised. At that time no one would have spoken of the “four major sports leagues.”
