Obi-Wan: There you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi master who instructed me. (my italics)
Obi-Wan: I thought I could teach him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong.
No matter what certain revisionists say about Yoda instructing Jedi children, Phantom Menace does not reflect the spirit of these quotes.
They could have med the exact same movie but with Obi-Wan in Qui-Gon’s role and some previously unknown apprentice of Obi-Wan in Obi-Wan’s role. The apprentice could die at the end instead of Qui-Gon, and everything would be alright.
It’s Beru and Owen. Lars is their surname.
He met them in Attack of the Clones. I only saw the movie once, but I think Owen is the son of Shmi’s husband. They married after Anakin left Tattooine.
Since it seems o many people didn’t like it, I have to weigh in an say I damned well liked both prequels.
In all honestly, George Lucas wasn’t making the first one for anyone over the age of 12, and he pretty much admitted to that. He just did what he loved, and I love his action. Plus, I really admire the protrayals of Qui-Gon, Obi-wan, and the politics in the background. There was more than enough meat here to saitify me to watch it some 15 times. Oddly, I very much liked SW before then, but never considered myself a super fan. Been there, read the books (wasn’t impressed by most of them).
And I was awed by “Attack of the Clones”.
No Spoiler boxes for YOU!
Alright…
[spoil]I really admire the way Lucas has set up Palpatine. He;s not omniscient, but opportunistic and powerful. He uses the simple principles of 'divide and conquer" and “distract your foes” and “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” to dispatch his enemies. He’s crushing the Jedi so badly that somehow their very grip on the Force is weakened. Every move he makes leaves him stronger even when it seemingly fails.[/spoil]
[spoil]I really liked Christopher Haiden’s acting. There were a few scenes that jarred me, but then, given that this is a very immature love between two very different and immature people with no real common understanding, I can actually see how this might be very realistic. Honestly, this kind of mopery and hammy lines are a hell of a lot more accurate for people of that age (of which I am not too far off of) than anything resembling “romance”. More seriously, the Anakin works best when he’s not talking but just showing his feelings in other ways. To me, that the pinacle of Staw Wars. When the characters just seem to be, the movies hit a high note.[/spoil]
