# Are there any houses in Manhatten?

A sattelite photo of [Wards Island](http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=wards+island,+manhattan,+new+york+city&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=40.787268,-73.926144&spn=0.018781,0.022316&t=k&om=1), now joined by landfill with Randalls Island to its north, doesn’t show a whole lot of single-family residential buildings. In fact, I don’t see any when I zoom in.

The [Marble Hill section](http://www.forgotten-ny.com/STREET%20SCENES/marblehill/marble.html) of Manhattan has many detached single family houses.

And I seem to recall that there are a few detached houses in some of the little, out-of-the-way streets in the West Village, like Macdougal Alley.

Eh, scratch that. It _was_ between 1st and 2nd on 82nd but it’s been torn down.
