A lot of people go through a foot-shooting phase when they’re in their 20s. We need to get rid of these purity tests that purge great candidates just because they happen to have a self-inflicted shattered foot. Real people in the white working class don’t care about a few missing feet here and there, they want to hear about the issues that matter to them like why rape is the woman’s fault. Anyway, I decided to get my foot reconstructed 48 hours ago once everyone found out I had shot it off, so we’re done talking about that. And anyway, isn’t the real issue that Israel broke my arm? What sort of rootless cosmopolitan billionaire pharisee intellectual new yorker bagel-eating person is trying to distract you from their crimes by talking about my feet? ---

Platner’s attempt to host a fundraiser at a gay bar in New York was [cancelled](https://www.advocate.com/politics/national/graham-platner-cancels-gay-event) after his lengthy record of [anti-gay posting on Reddit](https://www.advocate.com/politics/graham-platner-homophobic-posts) came to light. He has previously claimed that he posted the comments as a “juvenile” (the last one was made in 2021, when he was 37, twelve years after he was informed that he was being denied re-enlistment in the Marines due to his Nazi tattoo) and, now that he is running for a Democratic nomination, has decided to regret them. No information on why a candidate for senate from Maine is fundraising in New York was available. ---
