This is troubling in a way that the tattoo is not. Reading the article I see no reason to doubt Racicot. Barring some extraordinary development, Platner should be prosecuted and should certainly drop out.
Note that this newest accusation has come out one week before the deadline to replace Platner as Democratic candidate.
To me that lends some credibility to the claim. Who knows how many dozens of claims will come out AFTER this deadline. It will be a deluge. But this one seems to me to be less-suspicious (as being a GOP fabrication) because of the timing.
There seems to be an assumption that it’s Platner or Mills. NO other options.
Granted that Maine is a small state, but don’t they have a working politics up there? Mayors? People who worked in state government and amassed a good record? Both current US Reps from Maine are Democrats (Jared Golden and Chellie Pingree)—are they both unelectable to the Senate?? What about the state Senators and Reps?
It seems as though Democrats fell deeply in love with the idea of a Guy That Young Guys Will Identify With. The blackout drinking and subsequent assaults on females were catnip to them—it made Platner Ultra-Electable! Guys will vote for him!!!
Maybe that wasn’t the best plan, after all.
My money’s on Troy Jackson. And I think Platner will drop out today or tomorrow.
They chose not to run for Senate.
Sure, but the situation may have changed.
Could be on the timing. And thanks for the heads-up on Jackson. I see his bio starts with “logger” which should please the ‘we need a blue-collar guy’ folks. He’s 58 which isn’t ideal, but it’s better than “80s.”
I think that’s the point; they may not have been unelectable so much as they chose not to run. But now there is a more pressing need, and someone who wasn’t interested before might decide they need to.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-CA), Donna Brazile, the hosts of Pod Save America, the Maine Democratic Party leadership including the President of the Maine Senate Mattie Daughtry (D), Hasan Piker left-wing influencer and the group End Citizens United have withdrawn endorsements and called for him to drop out. So he is clearly toast and needs to go post haste.
So my question is this - who is actually available to get on the ballot and beat Susan Collins (MAGA)? And don’t say the 500 year old former governor.
Troy Jackson!
Well, not everyone is jumping off the bandwagon…MTG says she believes him!
I’m glad I don’t live in Maine, because I can’t think of any reason NOT to reject him, and have felt this way from day one.
oops.
Apparently pieces of shit love the guy, and that is what matters.
That this would happen was only the most obvious thing in the universe, and Democrats were defending this asshole in the same way that Trumpists defend Trump. Exceedingly disappointing to see our own side fall prey to same type of degraded cognition. Smh.
And what people failed to see that is extremely important is this: it’s not just what has already come out; it’s what is likely to come out hereafter. The whole tip of the iceberg thing. If a Democrat defended this guy, I question their ethical standards and consistency (would we forgive a fascist for the same thing), but I would not call them stupid just for that. I would call someone on our side stupid for looking at this guy’s behavior and thinking, “Oh, there’s no pattern of undisciplined and chaotic behavior here–it’ll be fine!” LMFAO. No.
Nobody said that. But putting rape in the same category as getting a gross tattoo is fucked up. The latter in no way predicts the former, and the folks gloating about their prophetic powers aren’t, lemme say this in P&E terms, making a compelling case.
Turds of a feather float together
I don’t agree it was obvious. I had originally anticipated something like this, but then when the domestic violence accusations came out, I cautiously thought this might be the worst of it. It just seemed like, if they could get something bigger, they would have.
I also don’t agree with any parallels with Trump’s supporters. What I saw were frustrated responses to bad arguments and highly implausible scenarios, not blind faith. Said frustration is no lower for me, as those who held fast to bad arguments will see this as evidence they were right.
If all you said was that it seemed likely something big will drop, and that could tank him, then I have no problem with that. But if you argued stuff like “he will turn on us and be even more MAGA than Collins when elected” then you’re still wrong. Same if you were like “Nazi tattoo, end of thought.”
Add former NC Gov Roy Cooper (D) to the list of those calling for Platner to drop out. Cooper is the D nominee for the Senate seat up for grabs in North Carolina.
He didn’t just get a gross tattoo, he got a gross tattoo, lied about knowing its meaning for decades; during an argument with an ex he pushed her into a room, physically held the door shut, and then intimidated her into staying there until the next morning; and he cheated on his wife using the app Kik, which is renowned both for the ability to keep messages very private as well as for the high percentage of minors who make up the userbase.
Bullshit straw man argument. First of all, I just said nothing about the tattoo right here. Before, there were already accusations of abuse from other women, sexting six other women not his wife just a few months into his new marriage, etc. Plus, there were rumors (apparently backed up by decent sources) something else even worse was going to come out. Have you actually been following the news on this guy?
Most of the Democratic party is asking him to step down, which would apparently let the Maine Democratic leadership pick someone to replace him.
…
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who leads the caucus’s campaign committee, said in a statement. “Graham Platner needs to immediately withdraw as the Democratic nominee for Senate and allow Maine Democrats the opportunity to choose a new candidate who can defeat Susan Collins.”
…
Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona) said he is rescinding his endorsement
…
I am withdrawing my endorsement,” said Khanna (D-California), who appeared with the candidate at a rally last month, just days after Platner was accused of mistreating women he dated.
…
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) said, “The best path forward is for Graham Platner to step aside as the Democratic nominee and address these serious allegations outside this Senate race.”
…
The state Democratic Party also called on Platner to leave the race.
…
But Sanders “did not respond to questions about the allegations”.
