Our house was renovated before we bought it, turning the small attic space into a couple of large rooms. (They raised the roof.) When they did this, they had to fit stairs in somehow, since the only way up before was (judging by the shoddy paint job in the hallway) a pull-down set of stairs in the hallway. There wasn’t really room to add stairs, so the stairs are in the living room, and are very steep.

Our staircase ends about three and a half feet from the front door, and cuts right through the bathroom.

What I want now is something I saw in a magazine. There was a house with a two story room, and they built A ROCK CLIMBING WALL going up to the second story! I want that!!!

When I was a little kid (actually, until I was about 12 or so) I used to scamper up the stairs on all fours, sort of- I put my hands out in front of me and used them for an extra boost on the stairs further up.

I still do that at my mothers house matt , the stairs are so steep!
In my new appartment I have a set of stairs with a small landing to the second floor, the stairs are double-wide downstairs and then are single wide after the landing. The entrance and the office/guestroom are downstairs, rest of the place is upstairs. Love it
