# Are these Eminem lyrics homophobic?

Yeah it’s homophobic. And calling someone a pussy or a bitch is misogynistic. And calling someone a dick is misandristic.

It seems like the consensus is that Eminem is definitely being anti-gay. I find it difficult to disagree, though I’d like to since he’s a talented artist.

That was “Jerry-rig” when I was growing up and was a phrase that referred to Germans. It meant to throw something together shabbily with usually a temporary purpose.
But it didn’t start there. It was a nautical term for repairing the rigging on a ship when it was damaged in a storm or a wreck.
I’m not certain how long that “jury-rigged” has meant the same thing, but apparently it does. It’s just that if you are a student or practitioner of law, “jury-rigging” might not be your best choice for usage.
As for “homophobia” I think that most people who dislike or hold contempt for gays or Lesbians _do_ perhaps harbor a fear – but not necessarily of the other person. I’m thinking of more internalized fears. Nevertheless, the “fear of homosexuals” definition is still in use in several dictionaries and is not archaic. The attitude is though.

That’s Eminem’s response to the Insane Clown Posse song “Slim Anus” which had a fair share of gay slurs directed at Eminem. For what it is worth I don’t think ICP or Eminem are anti-gay and all those lyrics are just diss tracks, not social commentary.

The lyrics are first and foremost idiotic and moronic.
If one’s (poetic) manliness depends on the degree and frequency of homophobic slur use then one should take a good look at the closet mirror.

Anti-gay is implied by the very USE of it.
Or, are you suggesting that using offensive slurs as similes is just an enrichment of language?

How is “I despise you because you’re a gay person. And when I say gay, I mean you’re weak and a wimp” not derogatory?
Of course it’s derogatory toward homosexuals. It’s kind of silly to argue otherwise. To be honest, it’s no big deal. We call people who make a mistake “retarded,” and people who try to assert themselves “nazis,” and women with strong personalities “dykes,” and all sorts of stuff that’s just downright evil if you think about it. At the end of the day, who cares? Casual racism and homophobia and insensitivity can be funny.

One can be talented and an asshole, the two aren’t antithetical. It’s better than being just an asshole, really :).

When I was a kid growing up, there was an expression of calling somebody a “white nigger”. Now somebody could argue that the expression is not racist because it was being used by white people and directed at other white people. But the implication was obvious; the person was saying some white guy was acting like a nigger. So while he was directly insulting one white individual he was also indirectly insulting every black person. And that’s the same thing we’re talking about here. It doesn’t matter if the specific person a rapper is insulting is gay or straight; using fag or queer as a general insult is an insult to all gay people.
