we added “jacket” to make “kanagroo jacket” in my family - curiously enough a co-worker brought this exact term up a couple of days ago

[English major nitpick]
“Snuck” is NOT proper English, no matter the country!
[Cite](http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sneak)

> [@](#):

> Usage Note: _Snuck_ is an Americanism first introduced in the 19th century as a nonstandard regional variant of _sneaked_. Widespread use of _snuck_ has become more common with every generation. It is now used by educated speakers in all regions. Formal written English is more conservative than other varieties, of course, and here _snuck_ still meets with much resistance. Many writers and editors have a lingering unease about the form, particularly if they recall its nonstandard origins. And 67 percent of the Usage Panel disapproved of _snuck_ in our 1988 survey. Nevertheless, an examination of recent sources shows that _snuck_ is sneaking up on _sneaked_. _Snuck_ was almost 20 percent more common in newspaper articles published in 1995 than it was in 1985.

all right, so it’s _almost_ proper English. But “sneaked” is _more_ proper.
Frickin’ vB codes. My finners hurt.

[/nitpick]

Dang.

I just re-read my first post to this thread, and I’d like to offer an apology to **featherlou** and hope that she will accept it. Here it is:

Holy cow, that was obnoxious, and I’m sorry you even had to read it. What I’m taking away from this thread is the idea that colloquialisms on the North American Continent seem to be “regional” rather that “national,” and I’m really sorry for popping off like a jerk.

Sometimes I have a hard time controlling the old-time Yankee in me. I really don’t have any excuse. I’m sorry I pooped in your thread.

CLEAN-UP IN MPSIMS!!!
Hey, no problem, mang. I was actually thinking about what you said, and I realized that Canadians like to do this kind of thing a lot, and I think I’ve figured out why - it’s because we’re such a young nation. We’re still in the process of hashing out our national identity - sort of like a teenage country.

Another soldier in that battle here… ‘Hoodie’ is functional but doesn’t have the same colourfulness of speech.
