Are you a mover or a stayer?

If finances allowed it, I’d move more often until I found the place just right for me. Then, maybe I’d settle down. As it is, I feel the need to move every few years, sometimes just because. I rarely get to act on those feelings because, as I stated above, finances. Being on a fixed income sucks when you’ve got a roamin’ heart.

I have done more moving than I would like since college; first for employment (3 times) then for the need to make others happy (6 times). Now that I am alone I have two more moves: one in a few years to have my kids join me for their college (larger home), then a retirement move when I am done in 20 years.

I guess I’m a mover, though it’s never been by choice. I was a kid with a dad who job-hopped, then I went to college, got a job, got married, and now he and I and the kiddo have the option to move wherever we want in the U.S., so by golly, we’re moving. We hope for the last time.

The longest I’ve lived in one residence was seven years. The longest I’ve lived in one town was ten years.
