Yet I would walk through a white neighborhhood and I wouldn’t feel worried. ---

I come from a neighborhood in the Bronx that was 100% lily-white Irish/Italian when I was growing up. Now it’s completely racially mixed: black, latino, Asian, with very few whites left except for my mother and a few other old-timers. It’s still a decent blue collar neighborhood. I don’t feel any less safe walking around the neighborhood than I did forty years ago. (Actually, considering the drop in crime rates across the board, it’s probably safer than it was then.) ---
