I voted for the question title in the poll because I think the whole poll has no grey areas and is very “let’s put you in a box. Who cares if you’re a couple of different ethnicities/races, you don’t define yourself by your gender, and think deeply about spiritual/religious questions. For a board that is not specifically atheist, the percentage of respondents that are atheists is extraordinary (compared to the general population, for example). Any specific reason why non-believers are over represented on this board? ---

Not an atheist myself, but I think it’s that atheism by and large has tremendous overlap with liberalism, science, rationality, philosophy, etc. - stuff that the Dope is big on. And yes, we had a thread a few months ago in which the ratio of atheists to theists was something like 30-to-1. ---

White atheist male. Liberal/conservative/libertarian depending on the issue. except on Tuesdays when I am a conservative liberal. unless its is raining, then I’m liberal conservative. but every Wednesday I am a libertarian. but if it involves national security I’m a conservative, or law and order. except when it directly affects me, so I’m a liberal libertarian. Unless I have to deal with city building inspectors, then I’m an Anarchist. Unless my neighbor is building an illegal deck. in which case I fully support city building inspectors. ---

I still think it’s pretty extraordinary for a relatively general interest board that doesn’t advertise as non-religious to have this high a percentage.
