Nope. While I find bits of my job satisfying, it’s still something I do because I have to. Given the chance to stop working, I’d do so in a heartbeat - I have tons of hobbies I find way more satisfying than my work, and would far rather devote my time to them.
My boss is a workaholic - she’s completely devoted to the company, and they really take advantage of her. When I first started, she was giving me a tour of the building, and started to explain the alarm codes “because you’ll need to set it if you’re working after 9pm”.
She seemed somewhat surprised when I replied that if I was ever still here after 9pm, it would mean my husband had kicked me out of the house.
I was thinking about this the other day. If I was wealthy, I would still do some variation of what I do now, but I just wouldnt’ take any crap off anybody.
I have two modes - workaholic and total sloth. Balance is a challenge for me. I’m currently preparing for a vacation with zero internet or cell access in the middle of a challenging project. I suspect I’ll be insane for the first couple days until I slip into sloth mode.
