Why should he or she? They feel that Democratic voters don’t respect them. Republican voters shower cops with “Back the Blue”/Blue Lives Matter" flags in suburbs and white ethnic areas. Cities are run by Democrats, rarely do Republicans win in cities. Yes, a cop should be neutral and nonpolitical, but they see the GOP having their backs right now, that is why they are gravitating to the GOP like crazy. ---

The Democrats can’t be to cocky, suburban Republicans will use Omar and AOC and Republicans can gain House seats in a bad year. MN-7: Collin Peterson is finished. Same thing on Staten Island with Max Rose in NY-11. ---

Why are you so frightened about what the police unions will do? Cops vote their conscience like anybody else. What makes you think their vote matters more than anyone else’s? If every single cop of the 700K in this nation voted GOP (and they won’t) what impact do you think it will have on you? What are you so terrified of? Turn off right wing news and stop shaking under your covers. ---

It’s July 2020, Democrats are ahead but don’t be cocky. Andrew Gillum lead every poll against Ron DeSantis and it did not matter because DeSantis’ message of taxes and law and order won in NOVEMBER. Staten Island is a pro-cop enclave, they have no tolerance for BLM, in some areas. A lot of people see BLM as antipolice. ---

Their vote matters because they are paid public servants with guns and authority, and if a lot of them are Trumpers it shows there is a big disconnect with the police and the public. ---

The police answer to the public. Stop trying to create a divisive atmosphere where the public needs to feel like it is cowed by the police. If the recent demonstrations showed anything it’s that the public has every right to stand up to the police and demand accountability and change. Focus on that instead of repeating fear mongering talking points you get from right wing media. ---

What big “disconnect?” There are millions of “general public voters” who will vote for Trump. And some cops will too. Maybe a lot of cops. Some cops will vote for Biden. We’ll have an election and see what happens. The idea that a cop union might vote conservative is no more surprising than the fact the UAW might support the Democrat in the race. ---

True, but people should not be posting online “dead cops” People should not be throwing molotovs on them either. That’s why they are saying that Democratic cities will have to protect themselves, because they are calling out sick in Atlanta and NYC, they feel they should not be serving people who are lawless in their eyes. Republican suburbs are heavily PRO POLICE right now and I see it in NJ. ---

I’m not creating a divisive atmosphere, I’m telling you there is going to be a white suburban backlash…it’s already on Long Island… a lot of police live on LI, they want NOTHING to do with urban areas anymore, a rift of suburban vs urban will grow all over America, even in deep-blue NY. What has to change is police culture, which is more like that of an occupying army than a domestic emergency response team. Of course most police are republican – that’s the party of we’re good you’re evil, the party that thinks force is always the best first idea, and also the last best idea. How to change it, I don’t really know. ---

Long Island is a suburban political vane for the state. A lot of moderate Democrats won state Senate seats in the 2018 Democratic election year, they are losing this year to pro-police GOP candidates. It’s personal on LI, a lot of cops live there, so people know police as family/friends, they’re going to vote Back the Blue. The Democratic Party is seen as antipolice, LI is a suburban hotbed. I won’t live on Long Island, too far off, but it is suburban territory. ---

How is Long Island a political vane for the state? NY State voted 4.5M (D) to 2.8M ® in 2016. In the Senate: Schumer (D) got 5.2M votes while Long ® got 2M In the House: 18 (D) congressional seats to 9 ® congressional seats. The Governor is a (D) Keep in mind this was in 2016 when Trump won.
