I am guessing, but I believe that when you have movies that few people have seen, fewer people care who wins. Someone previously said “I have no dog in this fight” and I am assuming that he/she has similar sentiments, meaning, he/she didn’t see any of the movies and therefore doesn’t wish to watch because it doesn’t matter who wins.

I probably won’t. I watched last year because I was rather interested in seeing how LOTR and my pet favorite for last year, the Triplets of Bellvue, would do. This year, I haven’t seen but a few of the films and for the most part I don’t care to. (The Aviator and incredibles are the only ones I’m really interested in seeing at this point).

It was an interesting tidbit. At least we have made progress. Thanks for the annecdote.

I’ll watch for the frocks and funny moments, and I’ve got my favourite picks, but I’m not waiting breathlessly until the very moment they air. 🙂

I’ll probably turn it on for the dresses and Chris Rock, even though I’ve only seen one or two (total) of the movies that are nominated. I can always do homework during the uninteresting parts.

I will watch the pre show (of course, a stereotypical gay thing). I have an odd fascination with the bride of Skeletor, errrrr Joan Rivers. But once the awards start, I will be here online, making the odd comment and watching the acting awards probably.

The main reason I’ll watch it, is to update an Oscar Winners webpage on my website:
[http://www.1728.com/page8.htm](http://www.1728.com/page8.htm)

Another great Oscar moment - in 1975, **Keith Carradine** won the Best Song Oscar for the movie “Nashville”. He pointed to the audience and asked his father, veteran actor\*\* John Carradine\*\*, to take a bow. He then _seriously_ excoriated the Oscar awards by saying “My Dad has been making movies for decades and this is the _first_ time he has _ever_ been invited to the Oscars”.

Ooooooh I bet Keith Carradine (as well as Michael Moore) is on an Oscar black list to never ever be awarded an Oscar ever again.

It was a great Oscar moment !!!

I’m watching Chris Rock’s monologue and then turning it off. The only BP nominee I’ve seen is The Aviator, which I liked but I don’t care enough about it to see if it wins or not. Most years I don’t see any of the BP noms. So there’s no real reason to watch. Plus it’s too long and will interfere with Adult Swim.

I do like Chris Rock though.

Not going to watch.

Mostly because I haven’t seen a single movie this year, so I would be completely lost. I’ve heard about several of the films, of course. But that’s not enough to actually judge what’s a good film or bad film, and what’s the fun of watching the Oscars if one can’t play along at home? 😉

</div>

I’m going to watch because I watch every year, but I just checked the list of nominees and I am embarrassed to say that I have seen only _one_ nominated movie, so it’s going to be rather dull. I hope someone gets drunk and says something stupid, as long as there is no crying like the time Gwenyth Paltrow thanked everyone on the planet (including her _dog_ I think) while sobbing in that pink foofy thing with mascara running down her face. Awful.

I just can’t go to the movies anymore - too many obnoxious people there. I just wait for them to come out on DVD. From the sounds of this thread, it seems a lot of people are doing this now …

I’m interested in the outcomes of the awards, but I’m not going to watch because the show is so frickin’ bad. Not even bad in a good way, as in something you could make fun of. Just plain bad. Now, the red carpet part I might watch. You can make fun of a lot of that!

I usually watch it even if I haven’t seen most of the movies. This year, I have seen most of them and I am always curious to see the how far off or on target I am with my choices.

And besides, Chris Rock’s monologue should be worth the visit.

I usually watch. The fact that comedians have been hosting it recently makes it much more entertaining than it would be otherwise, and it’s worthwhile seeing the clips. It’s a good source of suggestions for what movies to go see or to rent in the near future.

Can’t help it…I love the Oscars. My husband is dreading it, but I have been telling him all week that I have dibs on the TV on Sunday night.

I have only seen **Finding Neverland** (which I thought was merely good, not great or memorable) but no matter if I’ve seen any of the movies it’s always an interesting show.

I’d love to have an Oscar party some year, but none of my friends or family really care that much about it so there is no interest. So this year I’ll have my own Oscar party right here on my favorite couch.

Even tho’ his movie was a little boring I’m still rooting for Johnny Depp! But if Jamie Foxx wins that is fine–just no Clint Eastwood, please!

I was gonna go to an Oscar party tonight, but it got cancelled due to illness. So instead I’ll probably watch Chris Rock’s opening monologue, then stay tuned until I get bored and turn it off. But in that case I’ll probably tape the rest of it, just in case there are any Moments That Everyone’s Talking About that I have to go back and watch. I definitely _won’t_ watch all the pre-Oscar nonsense. And this all assumes I’ll get halfway-decent reception; I don’t have cable.

</div>

I can see the results – who won what – in just a few minutes afterwards in the paper, on the Internet, or on the news, so it seems pointless to be glued to the TV while they drag the whole thing out over three hours. And I’ll tape the show so I can skip over the awards and commercials and see the comedians. That should take all of 20 minutes and I’ll erase the tape and record Jeopardy! the next day.

And Chris Rock doesn’t do much for me, so I’ll probably skip most of him. Every time I see him and close my eyes, I get this vision of a guinea pig talking.

Yes, I’m keenly aware that one of the ironies of our culture is the fact that watching the Oscar pre-show to check out the chyx is way gayer than watching a basketball game full of big sweating men.

I do, however, pine for the days of showing leg. Not the done thing anymore. About all there is to get off on tonight is Hilary Swank’s back.
