“I am large; I contain multitudes.” Over some very good beer last night, a friend commented that I was the only person he knew who regularly attends the Great American Beer Festival, the SHOT show, and Comic-Con. 😃 So…how “large” are you? Where do you land on the “eclectic” scale? ---

I was VP of the Weirdo Club in elementary school, but after years of wimping out and trying to fit in, it’s taking a while to get back to my former oddball self. My friends would agree that I’m unique and a little weird, but I dunno about eclectic. Wait, I thought you said ‘eccentric.’ Haha. Hmmmm, I’m definitely well-rounded… I’ve been to Japan three times and I have a solid liberal arts education. I’m Catholic but yet I think my church’s teachings on sexuality are a bunch of baloney so I do the dirty bird when it’s appropriate. What the hell give me a 6/10. ---

Yes, I was a special child. I’m not really an eclectic person. My interests are mainstream, for a nerd. I am, however, a phenomenally silly person. I don’t know very many people as silly as me. And most of them are four. ETA– Damn, I think I misunderstood the OP too. I’m pretty well-rounded. I read a lot of nonfiction. I’ve tried a lot of different things, practiced a lot of different spiritual and intellectual styles. But I’m not a genius about it or anything. It’s not really impressive, it just sort of makes me seem more solid. ---

Some of my workmates seem to believe I am a tad eccentric, given my hobbies of croquet, football, classical singing, gambling, and drinking, but I don’t see these as that special. I do have fairly eclectic tastes, though. ---

Let’s see. I have both owned a trailer and gone to an anime convention. I redesigned my home town when I was in high school. I do figure drawing and electronics. Religiously, I describe myself a ‘secular neo-pagan’. Politically, I might be a ‘libertarian eco-socialist’. I would like to learn to speak Japanese and hunt with a crossbow (although not necessarily at the same time). All my life I’ve known I was an unusual person. I’m putting this in list format, as writing it as a paragraph makes it rather disorienting to read. [ul]I was the only kid I knew who liked to read and would rather be indoors reading than outside playing stickball with the neighbors. [/ul] [ul]At 14, I was the only girl I knew who followed professional wrestling, as well as the only one who admitted to listening to Menudo (80’s boy band from Puerto Rico, for those who don’t remember.) [/ul] [ul]I’ve liked Hello Kitty since I was 10, and always make a point of buying a Hello Kitty calendar to put in my cubicle at work. I own many Hello Kitty items, but I do have my limits. For example, I would never wear the Hello Kitty gown mentioned in the “unusual weddings” thread a few weeks back.[/ul] [ul]For that matter, I like many different things related to Japanese pop culture, as well as the traditional Japanese arts, ever since my cousin gave me a little geisha bobblehead doll when I was 13 or so, which I lost when we moved years later. I don’t like enka, no matter how much you make me listen. I’m still not sure about maid cafes, either.[/ul] [ul]I used to write poetry, but haven’t since I had my daughter. [/ul] [ul]My freshman and sophomore year of college, I collected comic books, but tended to stick to obscure titles such as _Wonder Man_ and _Archer and Armstrong_; I did collect various X-Men titles for several years, though. [/ul] [ul]Also, around that time, I acquired a fondness for wearing black. My family and coworkers always nag me for looking like I’m “going to a funeral” (their words), so I’ve bought several colorful blouses to wear at work and family events, but mostly I prefer black clothing, or prints on a black background.[/ul] [ul]I attended San Diego Comic Con with my little bro in '92, and Anime Expo in '98. Since then I’ve tried to go to AX for at least one day each year if I can afford it, and this year I’ve registered for all 4 days. One of the days, I will be taking my daughter, who will be cosplaying for the first time. I’ve never cosplayed myself, unless you count the time at Ren Fair when I rented a wench costume. Sadly, no photos of this incident survived. 😉 [/ul] [ul]I like going to Ren Fair, but haven’t gone since the time I took my daughter there when she was 3, due to lack of time and transportation.[/ul] [ul]I have trouble making friends among what various fandoms call “mundanes,” but the few friends I keep in contact with are, shall we say, rather unique individuals.[/ul] [ul]I’m not particularly large, but I am on the chubby side, there by fulfilling the stereotype of the overweight, unfashionable fangirl. Unlike the stereotypical fangirl/boy,I do bathe every day, and deodorant is my friend. 🙂 As for being “multitudinous”, I haven’t felt that way since my pregnancy 7 years ago. 😃 [/ul] [ul]I’ve read all 7 Harry Potter books, and have seen all the movies, and have them on DVD. I like Harry Potter more than the kids I know.[/ul] [ul]I want to make my own AMVs (anime music videos). [/ul] [ul]I like making lists.[/ul] So, do I win? 🆒 ---

Somebody (on here maybe?) had a different quote that expressed the same spirit. I think it was from ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ I keep meaning to try it again. Anyway, I’ve always been weird even for a geek. I like Star Trek, but only the original series (I’m too young to have watched it when it came on). I like kimono, anime, Thundercats & Silverhawks, Jem and the Holograms, hard scifi, comics (mostly Batman at the moment), and fantasy. I paint, write, draw, do graphic design, and make up languages. I hate doing web design (actually I doubt that’s really that unusual. It’s a bleeping pain in the ass, is what it is.) I listen to everything from Frank Sinatra to Nitzer Ebb to Sharon, Lois & Bram to the Village People to Weird Al. About the only things I won’t listen to are rap and country. I like any animals with four legs or less (except deer. Fricking evil creatures.) ---

I like political history and politics. I majored in government and know too much about government theory and the mechanics of government. Most of the books and magazines I read are about politics. I watch a shit load of movies and TV shows. The geekiest I get is my Joss Whedon obsession. I listen to rap, rock, and punk rock music. Right now The Beatles, Social Distortion and Lil’ Wayne are in heavy rotation on my mp3 player. I used to manage a liquor store. I don’t know much about beer, but I know a lot about the hard liquors. I can’t muster enough enthusiasm to learn about wine. I’m no stranger to weight training, though I need to start that again real soon. In three years, if all goes well, I should become a district attorney in addition to all these wonderful features. So if in the future you ever encounter a lawyer, in a gym, talking about how one can see traces of Hobbesian ideas in an episode of _Buffy_, while listening to _The Carter III_ on his mp3 player, that might be me. If your still not sure, ask that person about his favorite Scotch/Cognac/Vodka to make sure. ---
